Floriculture is gaining an emerging business in India and has attained popularity among the stake holders which is evident from the data w.r.t area and production during the last fifteen years. During 2018-19 total area under floriculture in India was 313 thousand ha and in Himachal Pradesh it was 629.29 ha (NHB, 2019). The Govt. of India as well as HP has launched a large number of schemes to promote protected cultivation of various flower crops including carnation.

An experiment was carried out to study the effect of different packing and storage conditions on vase life of cut carnation cv. Kiro. The flowers packed in polypropylene at 5°C cold storage under wet condition recorded significantly the lowest physiological loss in weight (g flower-1 ), as well as diameter of the flower (cm) with lowest electrolyte leakage (%) resulting in increased vase life of cut carnation cv. Kiro upto a period of 24.70 days.

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of different holding solution combinations on vase life of cut carnation cv. Kiro. The flowers were kept under common holding solution (sucrose 4% + 8-HQS 200 ppm) along with GA3 at 25 ppm recorded significantly highest water uptake on 6 th day (33.83 g flower-1 ) the highest transpirational loss of water (32.16 g flower-1 ) and highest fresh weight change of flower (152.38 g flower-1 ) which have extended the vase life period of carnation flower cv. Kiro.
