-
Subdural spinous abscess is a rare pathology that carries significant morbidity if not diagnosed and treated early; of the cases reported in the literature, very few are genuinely spontaneous in nature.

Abdominal surgery carries significant morbidity and mortality, which is in turn associated with an enormous use of healthcare resources. We describe the clinical course of 30 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients who underwent abdominal surgery and showed severe infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type (ST) 258 producing K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC-Kp).

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and pneumococcal pneumonia are common and carry a significant morbidity and mortality. Current strategies to prevent pneumococcal disease are under review in the United Kingdom (UK). We conducted a systematic review to evaluate the burden of vaccine type adult pneumococcal disease specifically in the UK.

The nosocomial infections are most important medical complications in all areas of the world and they remain one of the main sources of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Acinetobacter bacteria has appeared over the last era as significant opportunistic pathogen liable for nosocomial infections, although it is commonly related with benign colonization of hospitalized patients. The present investigation is carried out to isolate, identify Acinetobacter species from the different samples collected from tertiary care hospitals.

Surgical site infection (SSI) is defined as an infection that develops within 30 days of surgery at the incision site. They are the second most common nosocomial infections causing significant morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and death. To study the bacteriological profile of surgical site infections and their antibiogram. This is a study carried out in patients who underwent surgery from January 2018 to December 2018 in Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery and Orthopaedic departments in Government general hospital, Kurnool.

Delayed diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) carries a serious risk of mortality, morbidity, and handicap. As echocardiography is commonly used to diagnose congenital heart disease (CHD), echocardiographic investigations in newborns may be helpful in detecting CCHD earlier and with higher sensitivity than when using other screening methods.

Neonatal sepsis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns and is responsible for 30 – 50 % of total neonatal deaths. Multidrug resistant Gram negative bacilli belonging to the family Enterobcteriaceae have been increasingly responsible for infections among the neonates admitted to the NICU in many countries including India. The study was conducted to know prevalence of ESBL production in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli in NICU so that we can help clinicians to avoid injudicious use of antibiotics.

Community acquired pneumonia is an infection of pulmonary parenchyma. Despite of advancements in antimicrobial therapy, it stills remains a major threat with significant mortality and morbidity. It accounts for about 13-18% of all nosocomial infections. To identify microbial etiology of cases of Community acquired pneumonia, perform antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates & compare the anti-microbial resistance pattern with special reference to Streptococcus pneumoniae. The study was carried out at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre from February 2012 to February 2013.

Lupus nephritis (LN) carries high morbidity and mortality and whenever added to neuropsychiatric manifestations lead to more unfavorable prognosis. Though silent brain MRI findings in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) had been widely studied, the current work focused on LN patients comparing them to those without kidney affection, studying their cerebral MRI and its correlation with the histopathological classes of LN and disease activity. This may enable us to know more about early brain affection in LN patients for better follow up, management, and prognosis of this serious comorbidity.

Economics: Evaluation of the traffic-related health impacts and their monetarisation: Using epidemiological data regarding the relation between air pollution and morbidity and premature mortality, the number of cases of morbidity and/or premature mortality attributed to air pollution is determined for each of the health outcomes separately, using specific exposure-response functions. The same operations are carried out for the theoretical situation in which there is no road traffic-related air pollution.
