This paper presents the results of an investigation of the properties of a modified platinum electrode with meso-tetraphenylporphyrin iron(III) complex immobilized in Nafion film and its catalytic activity in the electrochemical oxidation of selected hydroquinone and catechol derivatives. The redox activity of iron complexes of porphyrins was characterized in aqueous solutions of perchloric acid by means of cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry.

The synthesis and characterisation including 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy of a Mannich base 1,4-di-(5- acetamido-2-hydroxybenzyl)piperazine is herein reported. The Mannich reaction leading to the formation of the ligand took place at both ends of piperazine. Four metal complexes [Cu(II) and Fe(III)] including those bearing thiocyanate groups (SCN–) in N- and S-bonding modes have been studied for their abilities to mimic catecholase oxidase. All the metal complexes are catalytically active with the highest turnover rate (k cat) recorded for complex 3.

A catechol-based benzoxazine copolymer is reported via a new approach using an oxazine-thiol reaction. The main chain benzoxazine precursor was obtained via the classic benzoxazine synthesis methodology using the raw chemicals catechol, formaldehyde, and 4,7,10-trioxa-1,13-tridecanediamine. The countercomponent was synthesized from poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether via the Fischer esterification reaction. The obtained reactive catechol-based benzoxazine was then reacted in mild conditions with polymeric thiol precursor to obtain a copolymer structure.

The present study aims to investigate appropriate culture conditions for enhancing the expression of the cat1 gene encoding CAT1 enzyme from Burkholderia cepacia DF4 in Escherichia coli M15. The optimized culture conditions for gene expression are cell density at the time of induction, shaking speed, induction temperature, induction time, and inducer concentration. The highest level for CAT1 was obtained at the IPTG concentration of 1.2 mM, 10 hours after induction at 35 °C, shaking speed 200 rpm with cell density at OD600 0.7.
