This qualitative study offers a significant contribution to addressing the increasing youth suicide rate in Australia, with suicide now the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24 years old (AIHW, 2017, 2020b; Robinson et al., 2016). The research goal is to investigate what guides and shapes school social work practice in preventing and responding to suicidal students in Victorian secondary schools, and the implications for social work practice and education.

India accounts for 30% of neonatal deaths globally. Bacterial sepsis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns. The study helps to make antibiotic policy in neonatal sepsis. The main objective is to study the incidence of multidrug resistant gram negative and gram positive organisms causing neonatal septicemia and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern. The study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology over a period of one year. Sample of blood was collected under aseptic precautions and processed by standard techniques.

Forensic pathology is a sub-section of forensics pathology that specifies in determining the cause of death by examining a corpse. The autopsy is performed by a coroner or medical examiner, usually during the investigation of criminal law cases and civil law cases in some jurisdictions. Coroners and medical examiners are also frequently asked to confirm the identity of a corpse. Also see forensic medicine.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 protein R (HIV-1 Vpr) promotes nuclear entry of viral nucleic acids in nondividing cells, causes G2 cell cycle arrest and is involved in cellular differentiation and cell death. Vpr subcellular localization is as variable as its functions. It is known, that consistent with its role in nuclear transport, Vpr localizes to the nuclear envelope of human cells. Further, a reported ion channel activity of Vpr is clearly dependent on its localization in or at membranes.

Exposure of mammalian cells to oxidant stress causes early (iron catalysed) lysosomal rupture followed by apoptosis or necrosis. Enhanced intracellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), presumably of mitochondrial origin, is also observed when cells are exposed to nonoxidant pro-apoptotic agonists of cell death. We hypothesized that ROS generation in this latter case might promote the apoptotic cascade and could arise from effects of released lysosomal materials on mitochondria.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) are the most common hereditary cardiac conditions. Both are frequent causes of sudden death and are often associated with an adverse disease course.Alpha-cardiac actinis one of the disease genes where different mis-sense mutations have been found to cause either HCM or DCM. We have tested the hypothesis that the protein-folding pathway plays a role in dis-ease development for two actin variants associated with DCM and six asso-ciated with HCM....

Homocysteine (Hcy) is anonprotein-forming sulphur amino acid that plays an important role in remethylation and trans-sulphuration processes. In recent years, it has been suggested that increased levels of plasma Hcy may play a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly at the cardiovascular level. The pathogenic mechanism of hyperhomocysteinemia, however, has not been clarified.

Loss of functional emerin, a nuclear membrane protein, causes X-linked recessive Emery–Dreifuss muscular dystro-phy. In a yeast two-hybrid screen, we found that emerin interacts with Btf, a death-promoting transcriptional repressor, which is expressedat high levels in skeletalmuscle. Biochemical analysis showed that emerin binds Btf with an equilibriumaffinity (KD)of100 nM. Using a collection of 21 clustered alanine-substitution mutations in emerin, the resi-dues required for binding to Btf mapped to two regions of emerin that flank its lamin-binding domain. ...

Vinblastine and paclitaxel (Taxol) are widely used chemotherapeutic drugs that inhibit the normal function of microtubules causing mitotic arrest and cell death. Despite these similarities, the signaling pathways that mediate and regulate cell death induced by these agents remain incompletely under-stood.

Oxidative stress, followed by the apoptotic death of pancreaticbcells, is considered to be one of causative agents in the evolution of the type 2 dia-betic state; therefore, the protection ofbcells can comprise an efficacious strategy for preventing type 2 diabetes. In the present study, RIN-m5F cells (i.e. the rat insulinoma bcell line) were stimulated with streptozotocin, resulting in a time- and concentration-dependent release of lactate dehydrogenase.

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies are often carried out to provide metabolic information on tumour cell metabolism, aiming for increased knowledge for use in anti-cancer treatments. Accordingly, the presence of intense lipid signals in tumour cells has been the subject of many studies aiming to obtain further insight on the reaction of cancer cells to external agents that eventually cause cell death.
