Here, we present a one-pot, water-based synthesis of red emissive biocompatible carbon dots (R-CDs) for live bioimaging of U87 microglia tumor spheroids produced in a microwell-based microfluidic device. RCDs were synthesized by the hydrothermal method, using thiourea and para-phenylenediamine as the starting precursors.

The study aimed to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals in the soil of industrial zones in An Giang province. Soil samples were collected at Binh Hoa and Binh Long industrial parks with 20 monitoring positions in the topsoil. The heavy metals including Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and Arsenic (As) were analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy.

2-Acetylpyridine-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (APPT) ligand was incorporated onto Amberlite XAD-2 resin through an azo spacer and characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, TGA, and SEM analysis. The synthesized resin was used for the preconcentration of Pb(II), Zn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) ions. The sorbed metal ions were eluted with 10 mL of 2.0 mol L−1 HCl and determined by microsample injection coupled flame atomic spectrometry (MIS-FAAS).

The immobilization method and atomic concentrations of Si 2p, Au 4f, S 2p, C 1s, N 1s, and O 1s of the resulting SA–biotin modified Si surface were determined by XPS. The CD spectrum and confocal microscopy imaging confirmed that step-by-step modification and bioconjugation can be monitored successfully. Such detailed and well-defined step-by-step characterization provides good information about the surface properties of biosensor platforms. In addition, the LSPR sensing ability of the Au Np based platforms was studied by using a model SA–biotin system.

New coordination polymers, formulated as {[Zn(µ-sipH)(µ-apim)]·3H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(µ-sip)(H2O)2(apimH)]·3H2 O}n (2) were synthesized based on the 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole (apim) along with 5-sulfoisophthalate (sip) ligands. The complexes were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Domestic water system of Thai Nguyen city originates from Nui Coc lake which has an area of 25km2 . In fact, due to these original areas that have many metal mines, such as tin, lead, zinc, vonfram,..., the content of heavy metal in the water resource raises need for concern. Therefore, we evaluated the content of some elements: Cr, Mn, Cu, Cd, Pb, Hg in the water resource of Nui Coc lake, Tich Luong lake and the domestic water system of Thai Nguyen city to compare with the Vietnamese standard of maximum acceptable heavy metal content in drinking water.

: In this work, a new method for the growth of large CdS crystals into PdS/ZnS–CdS-type photocatalysts is presented. In order to accomplish this, in the first stage zinc sulphide was synthesised and hydrothermally crystallised. In the second stage, after PdS decoration, the recrystallised zinc sulphide was utilised as sulphur source for the synthesis of PdS/ZnS–CdS-type photocatalysts. The photocatalysts were characterised by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

Cocondensation and postfunctionalization methods were employed to synthesize a mesoporous silica with large surface area (795.1 ± 1.1 m2 g −1 ) modified with 4-amino-5-hydrazino-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol, which was successfully applied to adsorb and preconcentrate Cu(II), Co(II), and Cd(II) from aqueous media. This study describes the synthesis, characterization, and application of a new p−sulfonatocalix[4]arenebased silica resin (calix-resin 5) for the extraction of selected metals, namely Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cu and Fe, from canola oil. Synthesis, morphology, purity, and elemental composition of calix-resin 5 were analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy.

The aim of this work was to prepare metal soaps of epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO) and use them as thermal stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For that purpose, commercial sunflower oil was first epoxidized and then used to prepare (Ba, Zn, Pb, and Cd) metal soap derivatives, which were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The prepared metal soaps derivatives of ESO were used as thermal stabilizers for plasticized PVC.

Small molecules targeting telomeric DNA or its interactions with telomerase have been an active area of cancer research. In the present study, we investigated the interactions of six benzimidazole compounds, called azacyanines, differing from each other in alkyl chain length and branching in the benzimidazole ring (azamethyl, azaethyl, azapropyl, azaisopropyl, azabutyl, and azaisobutyl) with human telomeric DNA (tel24) in 1:1 and 1:6 ratio (tel24:azacyanine) using UV-Vis, circular dichroism (CD), and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Two newly synthesized Schiff bases DMCA and DMBA were used for selective detection of Cd2+ over a wide range of other metal ions in acetonitrile (ACN)/Tris-HCl buffer (10 mM, pH 7.32, v/v 2:1). The sensors can detect Cd2+ ions by colour changes from colourless to orange for DMBA and yellow to reddish for DMCA. Response of the probes towards metal ions was investigated by using UV-vis spectroscopy. The complex stoichiometry between the sensors, DMBA and DMCA, and Cd 2+ was found to be 2:1 and the binding constants were calculated to be 2.65×10 12M−2 and 4.95×10 12M−2 , respectively.

Cadmium dithiocarbamate and cadmium ethyl xanthate complexes were synthesized and characterized by microanalysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyses. The complexes were employed as molecular precursors for the fabrication of CdS nanoparticles in hexadecylamine (HDA) and oleylamine (OLA) at a temperature of 250 °C. Spherical and oval shaped particles with sizes ranging from 9.93 ± 1.89 to 16.74 ± 2.78 nm were obtained in OLA while spherical, oval and rod shaped particles with sizes ranging from 9.40 ± 1.65 to 29.90 ± 5.32 nm were obtained in HDA.

In this study, synthesis of two new tetracyanocadmate(II) and tetracyanozincate(II) complexes based on 3-aminopyridine (3AP) and investigation of their structural properties were reported. These complexes were characterized by using vibration spectroscopy, elemental, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) techniques. Investigation of the elemental, spectral and single crystal data of these complexes showed that the formulas [Cd(3AP)2Zn(μ4 -CN)4]n(1) and [Cd(3AP)2Cd(μ4-CN)4]n(2) fully explained their crystal structure.

In this study, optimal conditions for the determination of Cu, Pb, Cd were investigated by flame atomic absoroption spectroscopy (F-AAS). The content of Cu, Pb, Cd in domestic water selected in some lakes in Cau Giay and Tu Liem districts (Hanoi) were determined using the optimal conditions obtained above.

Characteristic UV–vis and Raman bands were identified and their dependencies on the electrode potential have been discussed. Spectroelectrochemical results reveal differences both in the position of the spectral bands and their potential dependence for PPy and P(Py--DMCD) films indicating interactions between polymer chains and CDs during electropolymerization process. The films were also characterized by cyclic voltammetry and FT-IR spectroscopy.

Chemotherapy via oral route of anticancer drugs offers much convenience and compliance to patients. However, oral chemotherapy has been challenged by limited absorption due to poor drug solubility and intestinal efflux. In this study, we aimed to develop a nanosuspension formulation of oridonin (Odn) using its cyclodextrin inclusion complexes to enhance oral bioavailability. Nanosuspensions containing Odn/2 hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (Odn-CICs) were prepared by a solvent evaporation followed by wet media milling technique.
