  • The phase III REMoxTB study prospectively enrolled HIV-positive (with CD4+ count > 250 cells, not on anti-retroviral therapy) and HIV-negative patients. We investigated the incidence of adverse events and cure rates according to HIV status for patients receiving standard TB therapy in the trial.

  • The role of CD4+ CD25highCD127− T-reg cells in solid-organ Transplant (Tx) acceptance has been extensively studied. In previous studies on kidney and liver recipients, peripheral T-reg cell counts were associated to graft survival, while in lung Tx, there is limited evidence for similar findings. This study aims to analyze long term peripheral kinetics of T-reg-cells in a cohort of lung recipients and tests its association to several clinical variables.

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has emerged as one of the most devastating human pandemics with significant morbidity and mortality. A plethora of physiological factors including haematological status, immunological response, renal and liver enzymes, sex hormones, vitamin and mineralogical status play significant role in determining the HIV infection progression and effect of anti-retro viral therapy (ART). The present study aims to investigate the overall physiological status in HIV infected individuals prior to ART.

  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is responsible for depletion of CD4 cell count. Thus resulting in the rise of opportunistic infections (OI) leading to increase in morbidity and mortality in HIV infected patients. The aim of the study was to observe the opportunistic infections and CD4 count in HIV/AIDS patients. The work was done in Microbiology, Al-Ameen Medical College Vijayapur, Karnataka from January 2012 – December 2012.

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the most significant emerging infectious pathogen of the 20th Century. The progressive destruction of the immune system by chronic HIV infection leading to progressive fall in level of CD4 cells is responsible for the occurrence of infections by opportunistic micro-organisms. The pattern of Opportunistic infection in people living with HIV/AIDS attending CC was studied.

  • HIV/AIDS is a serious life threatening disease. The interaction of TB & HIV is two-fold, with TB being the leading cause of death among HIV infected patients. A decrease in CD4 count in HIV-TB co-infection, leads to an increase in morbidity and mortality. So this study was done to evaluate the CD4 cell count and its associating factors in HIV-TB co infection to estimate their immune status.

  • Bursa of Fabricius, the primary lymphoid organ for B-lymphopoiesis in Avian species and is responsible for humoral immunity. Flow cytometric analysis of Bu-1a+ B-cell count and CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell count were conducted in bursa of Fabricius of four different age groups of Nandanam broiler chicken viz., day-old, two, four and six weeks. Twelve birds from each age group, from both vaccinated and non-vaccinated groups were utilised. Tissue samples of the bursa were collected aseptically and processed for flow cytometric studies using monoclonal antibodies.

  • Cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) T cells play a central role in regulation of adaptive T cell-mediated immune responses. Low CD4 T cell counts are not routinely reported as a marker of immune deficiency among HIV-negative individuals, as is the norm among their HIV positive counterparts. Despite evidence of mortality rates as high as 40% among Ugandan critically ill HIV-negative patients, the use of CD4 T cell counts as a measure of the immune status has never been explored among this population.

  • HIV and TB co-infection is an alarming situation in the health care system. India has the third largest number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the world. This co-infection leads to difficulty in both diagnosis and treatment of TB resulting in increased mortality, morbidity, treatment failure and relapse. The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of TB in PLHIV and also to determine its co-relation with the CD4 counts of the affected individuals. This is a prospective study conducted over a period of one year commencing from April 2017 to March 2018.

  • Pulmonary system is the most commonly involved system in people living with HIV as lungs are continuously exposed to the infection as they are rich in macrophages, dendritic cells, lymphocytes etc. In PLHIV immunity is suppressed, hence lungs are prone for infection and non infectious pulmonary diseases. According to autopsy findings, in HIV lung was affected almost upto 100% in the period of epidemic to 70% in the HAART era. Pneumonia is most common pulmonary manifestation followed by pulmonary tuberculosis and PCP.

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and its end stage, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), is an extremely serious problem worldwide. HIV seropositive patients with CD4 T cell count < 200 cells/μl have reported an excess risk of diarrhoea. The present study was undertaken in the at Dr. S.C.G.M.C, Nanded between November 2015 and October 2017 to identify Opportunistic Intestinal parasites in HIV positive patients presenting with or without diarrhoea and their association with CD4 T cell count.

  • Histoplasmosis is a systemic mycotic infection caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, a dimorphic fungus. Although histoplasmosis can occur in immunocompetent persons, but immunocompromised individuals, such as people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), are at high risk of developing disseminated disease. In AIDS patients, mortality may approach 50%, due to disseminated histoplasmosis, especially in those with severe manifestations.

  • Opportunistic infections are infections that occur due to a decrease in the immune system and can cause serious conditions in people with weak immune systems such as in people with HIV / AIDS. Cryptosporidium sp. and Giardia lamblia are examples of the opportunistic intestinal protozoa that can cause chronic diarrhea so that it becomes dehydrated and malnutrition which can increase mortality and morbidity in HIV sufferers. Observational study with cross-sectional design on 50 fecal samples of HIV / AIDS patients. Cryptosporidium sp.

  • TB is the most common opportunistic infection (OI) among HIV infected individuals, and co infected individuals are at high risk of death. TB is the largest single cause of death in the setting of AIDS, accounting for 26% of AIDS related deaths, 99% of which occur in developing countries. HIV Associated Tuberculosis remains a major global public health challenge. Hence routine TB screening among PLWHA (People Living with HIV-AIDS) offers the opportunity to identify those without TB, helps for early diagnosis and promptly treat TB. The aims of the study are 1.

  • The existence of multiple autoimmune disorders in diabetics may indicate underlying primary defects of immune regulation. The study aims at estimation of defects of CD4+ CD25+high cells among diabetic children with multiple autoimmune manifestations, and identification of disease characteristics in those children. Twenty-two cases with type 1 diabetes associated with other autoimmune diseases were recruited from the Diabetic Endocrine and Metabolic Pediatric Unit (DEMPU), Cairo University along with twenty-one normal subjects matched for age and sex as a control group.

  • This programmatic update indicates that Options B and specifically B+ are likely to prove preferable to Option A for operational, programmatic and strategic reasons. While Option A has been successfully implemented in a number of highburden countries, generally it has been difficult to implement in many low-resource settings due to the changes in drugs delivered across the care continuum (antenatal, delivery and postpartum) and the requirement for timely CD4 testing to determine which women should initiate ART for their own health.

  • The 2010 WHO PMTCT ARV guidelines are based on the need to distinguish between treatment and prophylaxis. Consistent with the 2010 WHO adult ART guidelines (2), they recommend and prioritize starting all women with CD4 counts ≤350 cells/ mm3 or WHO Stage 3 or 4 disease (approximately 40–50% of all HIV-infected pregnant women) on ART for life for their own health as well as for the prevention of infant HIV infection.
