  • Microbial electrosynthesis and electro fermentation are techniques that aim to optimize microbial production of chemicals and fuels by regulating the cellular redox balance via interaction with electrodes. While the concept is known for decades major knowledge gaps remain, which make it hard to evaluate its biotechnological potential.

  • Viroids are plant sub viral pathogens with small, circular, single stranded and non-protein coding RNA genome that are currently known to infect only plants. These are the smallest self-replicating genetic units. These small RNAs contain all the information necessary to mediate replication, pathogenicity, intracellular and systemic trafficking. All or most of these functions likely result from direct interactions between distinct viroid RNA structural motifs and host cellular factors.

  • Consumption of excessive big quantity of trance-isomers leads to organism dysfunction at cellular level. It is established that trance-isomers metabolized in an organism much more slowly than natural cis-isomers. The work is aimed at research of technologies of reception of firm fats with the minimum maintenance of trance isomerized fat acids. At hydrogenation of vegetable oils there are various collateral reactions, including trance isomerization during which natural cis-isomers of fat acids turn to trance-isomers.

  • Endophytes are the organisms that live within plant tissues and spend at least a half of their life time without causing disease under any circumstances. So, the endophytes are commonly defined as those organisms whose infections are inconspicuous and symptomless in host tissue and internal microbial colonization. Both prokaryote (bacteria) and eukaryotes (fungi) colonize the plant tissues exhibiting a little variation in their colonization mode. The former colonize intracellularly in vascular tissues and the later shows asymptomatic colonization either inter or intracellularly.

  • Mobile Ad Hoc wireless Networks (MANETs) is defined as a multi-hop infrastructureless wireless network which is self-organized and connects two or more stations spontaneously in the absence of central point or any access point. It allows peer-to-peer connections between devices that are operating in ad-hoc mode and are within the wireless range. They can form standalone groups of wireless nodes and can be connected to a cellular or fixed network. Nodes in a mobile adhoc network are free to move and organize themselves in an arbitrary fashion.

  • In this paper, we refer to an LTE-A scenario in which the underlay mode is adopted to allow D2D pairs to communicate directly by sharing sub-channels with Cellular Users (CUEs) and cellular mode (CELLM), where two D2D users communicate through the eNB as conventional CUEs and no direct D2D link is established.

  • This paper presents a procedure to design cellular composite beams according to EN 1994-1-1. In addition, a parametric study is carried out to evaluate the influence of circular opening geometry to ultimate load and failure mode of a series of cellular composite beams. As a result, an optimal dimension of cellular beam is proposed.

  • We study a simple three-lane cellular automaton, based upon the well known NagelSchreckenberg model, and examine the effect of slow cars in such a system. We point out the important parameters defining the shape of the fundamental digram for the three-lane model and compare it to that of a two-lane one, showing the new mode of interactions between lanes. It is possible to reduce the influence of slow cars by choosing an adequate version of the symmetry with respect to lanes.

  • In rod phototransduction, cyclic GMP synthesis by mem-brane bound guanylate cyclase ROS-GC1 is under Ca 2+ -dependent negative feedback control mediated by guanylate cyclase-activating proteins, GCAP-1 and GCAP-2. The cellular concentration of GCAP-1 and GCAP-2 approxi-mately sums to the cellular concentration of a functional ROS-GC1 dimer. Both GCAPs increase the catalytic effi-ciency (kcat /Km) of ROS-GC1. However, the presence of a myristoyl group in GCAP-1 has a strong impact on the regulation of ROS-GC1, this is in contrast to GCAP-2....

  • The transcription factorNF-jB is activated in cellular stress responses. This requires rapid regulation of its function, which is accomplished, in part, by various modes of phos-phorylation. Even though diverseDNAbinding subunits of NF-jB proteins may transactivate fromdistinct recognition sequences, the differential regulation of transcription from the large number of NF-jB responsive sites in various gene promoters andenhancershasbeen incompletelyunderstood.

  • Within the last decade the interest in lipases has increased dramatically, and no doubt, this interest will be maintained in the future. Novel and powerful tools of molecular biology, crystallography, NMR technology and molecular modeling will continue to reveal new amino acid sequences and three-dimensional structures of lipases. In addition, transgenic and knockout animal models as well as the use of specific inhibitors will add knowledge about their mode of interaction with lipid substrates, cleavage mechanism and physiological roles in humans....
