The C2H2 zinc finger protein ZAT12 has been classified as a plant core abiotic stress response gene in the early response to multiple stresses. ZAT12 links the iron deficiency and oxidative stress responses through the direct interaction with/and negative regulation of a central regulator - FIT.

FtsZ is conserved in almost all bacteria and is an essential protein for bacterial cell division. The cell division is prevented by the inhibitors against FtsZ’s functions. Thus, FtsZ is known as an attractive, and underexploited novel antibacterial target protein. The aim of this research is searching for new antibacterial agents from 72 plants collected in Central Vietnam.

Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the extraction of phenolic compounds from fresh Pouzolzia zeylanica plant using hot water as a solvent. A central composite design (CCD) in form (23+star) was used to investigate the effects of two independent variables, namely, extraction temperature (70 to 90oC) and extraction time (20 to 40 min).

4-Coumarate:CoA ligase (4CL) is involved in the formation of coenzyme A thioesters of hydroxycinnamic acids that are central substrates for subsequent condensation, reduction, and transfer reactions in the biosynthesis of plant phenylpropanoids. Previous studies of 4CL appear to suggest that many isoenzymes are functionally equivalent in supplying substrates to various subsequent branches of phenylpropanoid biosyntheses. In contrast, divergent members of a 4CL gene family were identified in soybean (Glycine max L.).

The citric acid or tricarboxylic acid cycle is a central element of higher-plant carbon metabolism which provides, among other things, electrons for oxidative phosphorylation in the inner mitochondrial membrane, intermediates for aminoacid biosynthesis, and oxaloacetate for gluconeogenesis from succinate derived from fatty acids via the glyoxylate cycle in glyoxysomes. The tricarboxylic acid cycle is a typical mitochondrial pathway and is widespread among a-proteobacteria, the group of eubacteria as de®ned under rRNA systematics from which mitochondria arose. ...

Bilitranslocase is a rat liver plasma membrane carrier, displaying a high-affinity binding site for bilirubin. It is competitively inhibited by grape anthocyanins, including aglycones and their mono- and di-glycosylated derivatives. In plant cells, anthocyanins are synthesized in the cytoplasm and then translocated into the central vacuole, by mechanisms yet to be fully characterized.

PsbO protein is an extrinsic subunit of photosystem II (PSII) and has been proposed to play a central role in stabilization of the catalytic manganese cluster. Arabidopsis thalianahas twopsbO genes that express two PsbO proteins; PsbO1 and PsbO2. We reported previously that a mutant plant that lacked PsbO1 (psbo1) showed considerable growth retardation despite the presence of PsbO2 [Murakami, R., Ifuku, K., Takabayashi, A., Shika-nai, T., Endo, T., and Sato, F. (2002)FEBS Lett523,138–142]. In the pre-sent study, we characterized the functional differences between PsbO1 and PsbO2....

Plants are continuously challenged by a variety of abiotic and biotic cues. To deter feeding insects, nematodes and fungal and bacterial pathogens, plants have evolved a plethora of defence strategies. A central player in many of these defence responses is jasmonic acid.

c-Glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT; EC 2.3.2.2), an enzyme found in organ-isms from bacteria to mammals and plants, plays a central role in glutathi-one metabolism. Structural studies of GGTs from Escherichia coliand Helicobacter pylori have revealed detailed molecular mechanisms of catalysis and maturation.

Calcium signal transduction is a central mechanism by which plants sense and respond to endogenous and environmental stimuli. Cytosolic Ca 2+ ele-vation is achieved via two cellular pathways, Ca 2+ influx through Ca 2+ channels in the plasma membrane and Ca 2+ release from intracellular Ca 2+ stores.

The sustainability and prosperity of the ancient civilizations of China, Egypt, Babylonia, Phoenicia, Persia and Roma were based on the extensive use of water for human consumption, crop irrigation, canal navigation and energy generation. Today, the worldwide scarcity of water and clean energy constitutes a central and critical problem for the whole humankind. This situation is aggravated as industrial, agricultural and municipal effl uents reach the water bodies, or the coastal seawater that is used as feed for desalination plants.

Planting Acacia pulpwood to appear as a profitable enterprise for small-scale farms, many of them are prepared to borrow from banks to establish plantations. Acacia hybrid clones are the materials most popular varieties. A simple spreadsheet financial model for pulpwood development has been developed that internal rate of return can be as high as 24% in basic conditions....
