For the first time, a Mississippian reef is described from Turkey. Th is microbial-sponge-bryozoan-coral bioherm has been discovered in the Central Taurides (South Turkey), at Kongul Yayla located between Hadim and Taşkent. The bioherm contains a rich and diversifi ed fauna: sponges and rugose corals are of particular interest.

A planktonic foraminiferal assemblage obtained from the Yavca stratigraphic section north of Mersin shows that the age of a melange-related turbiditic sequence extends to the Danian (Early Palaeocene). Previously, this turbiditic sequence, termed the Yavca Formation, was considered to be of Late Cretaceous or Campanian-Maastrichtian age.

The Tuz Gölü Basin is the largest sedimentary depression located at the center of the Central Anatolian Plateau, an extensive, low-relief region with elevations of ca. 1 km located between the Pontide and Tauride mountains. Presently, the basin morphology and sedimentation processes are mainly controlled by the extensional Tuz Gölü Fault Zone in the east and the transtensional İnönü– Eskişehir Fault System in the west.

The age of the marine succession capping the basement rocks of the central Taurides in the Mut-Ermenek Basin is constrained using calcareous nannofossil biochronology. The Olukpınar section, which correlates with the biozones between MNN5a and MNN6b (late Langhian-late Serravallian), represents a deeper marine environment developed lateral to the Ermenek platform.

Apatite fission track (AFT) thermochronology is applied to the Horozköy granitoid, which outcrops within the Bolkar Mountains (south-central Turkey). The region comprises the Niğde Massif to the north, the Inner Tauride Suture Zone, and the Central Taurides to the south. The Niğde Massif and the Central Taurides collided during the Eocene following north-dipping subduction of the Inner Tauride Ocean beneath the Niğde Massif. The Ulukışla Basin formed above this suture zone.
