Lack of agreed terminology and definitions in healthcare compromises communication, patient safety, optimal management of adverse events, and research progress. The purpose of this scoping review was to understand the terminologies used to describe central venous access devices (CVADs), associated complications and reasons for premature removal in people undergoing cancer treatment.

This book addresses all the issues a patient may experience prior to receiving a VAD. Selection of equipment, practical aspects of technique, the pros and cons of the various veins, and modifications of technique for certain circumstances are examined. Covereage also includes the roles played by radiologists, anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and other team memebers.

Vascular access is a vulnerable aspect of hemodialysis in patients with end-stage renal disease. In such cases, arteriovenous fistulas are preferred, instead of catheters. Moreover, failure of the current arteriovenous access and catheter dependence often lead to morbidity and mortality

Cerebral air embolism (CAE) is a serious disease, often underdiagnosed due to nonspecific neurological findings and clinical and imaging unawareness. Early diagnosis is crucial for a prompt specific treatment, which differs from other types of brain infarcts.

Congenital heart diseases rarely have a primary manifestation in adulthood. They are a rare cause of pulmonary hypertension in adults. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return is a potentially treatable cause of pulmonary hypertension. With the current trend toward more medical imaging, we expect this diagnosis to be made more often in the future.

Inferior thyroid artery pseudoaneurysm associated with internal jugular vein puncture: A case report
Central venous catheter placement is an important aspect of patient care for the administration of fluids and medications and for monitoring purposes. However, it is still associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Thoracoscopic surgery has greatly alleviated the postoperative pain of patients, but postsurgical acute and chronic pain still exists and needs to be addressed. Indwelling drainage tubes are one of the leading causes of postoperative pain after thoracic surgery. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the effects of alternative drainage on acute and chronic pain after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

Early goal directed therapy improves survival in patients with septic shock. Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring is essential to guide adequate resuscitation. Use of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) is increasing, but little data exists comparing a PICC to a conventional CVP catheter. We studied the accuracy of a novel PICC to transmit static and dynamic pressures in vitro.

It has been reported that the direction of the guidewire J-tip is associated with misplacement of a central venous catheter. We hypothesized that real-time ultrasound-guided infraclavicular subclavian venous cannulation would be less influenced by the direction of guidewire J-tip compared to landmark method.

Current evidence regarding the efficacy of ethanol locks in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBI) is inconclusive. Methods: Electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library (until April 2018),were systematically searched for relevant studies.

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and pulmonary hypertension (PHT) are highly dynamic cardiovascular lesions that may progress rapidly, particularly in the orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) waitlist population. Severe TR and PHT are associated with poor outcomes in these patients, however it is rare for the two to be newly diagnosed intraoperatively at the time of OLT.

Central venous catheter (CVC) placement is a routine procedure but is potentially associated with severe complications. Relatively small studies investigated if the use of ultrasound is efective in bridging the skill gap between profcient and not profcient operators, while patient safety during training remains a controversial topic. The frst aim of this study was to evaluate if resident profciency afects the failure rate in CVC positioning under ultrasound guidance.

Central venous catheters (CVCs) play an important role during cardiac surgery. Topical tissue adhesives form a thin film of coating that becomes bound to keratin in the epidermis. The advantage of this “super glue” lies in its antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to evaluate fixation of CVCs with topical tissue adhesive in patients (prone to bleed) undergoing cardiac surgery regarding its ability to reduce the incidence of pericatheter leakage.

Catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) is defined as the presence of bacteraemia originating from an intravenous catheter. It is one of the most frequent, lethal, and costly complications of central venous catheterization and also the most common cause of nosocomial bacteraemia. Hence the present study was undertaken to find the incidence of catheter colonisation, catheter site (local) infection and CRBSI among patients with indwelling vascular catheters in a tertiary care hospital and determine their microbiological profile.

Central Venous Catheter (CVC) remains a suitable form of vascular access for patients with chronic hemodialysis and has been estimated that almost 30-40% of patients are dependent on CVCs for their vascular access. Aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs). A Cross sectional study was undertaken after ethical committee approval, Blood samples (5ml-10ml) were collected from catheter site under sterile precautions and Blood Culture (Bac„T‟Alert) performed and isolates grown were identified by routine methods as per standards.

There are very few studies on CLABSI in NNICU. Surveillance of CLABSI in NNICU is integral, as it provides insight to health care workers to work towards declining its rate and its unsavory consequences, via implementation and adherence to specific care bundles. Objectives of the study are: 1) To find the incidence of CLABSI in NNICU patients; 2) To identify etiological agents responsible for CLABSI; 3) To determine antimicrobial susceptibility pattern for bacterial agents obtained.
