Topical Reviews in Neurosurgery, Volume 1 focuses on neurosurgery, a medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders that affect any portion of the nervous system. This book discusses the advances in computed tomography, vascular surgery in neurological disorders, and carotid endarterectomy.

Rete mirabile of the cerebral artery is a rare anomaly, with most previous cases occurring in the middle cerebral artery or internal carotid artery. Here, we present the first report of unilateral rete mirabile in multiple intracranial arteries with ipsilateral internal carotid artery agenesis.

Concomitant carotid stenosis with cerebral aneurysm is a rare entity with an incidence reported to be about 1.9-3.2%. The effect of carotid revascularization on pre-existing cerebral aneurysm, along with risk factors for aneurysmal rupture, is not fully understood.

Monitoring and caring for patients after endovascular embolization plays a very important role, help early detection of complications, improve the quality of treatment and enhance the chances of recovery for patients. We aimed to evaluate some clinical characteristics and complications after endovascular coiling in the first 24 hours at Military Hospital 103.

This study reports the initial results of wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms treated with Woven EndoBridge (WEB) system at one of the first centers in Southeast Asia from April 2019 to June 2022. A total of 12 patients (50% female, median age of 66) with 12 aneurysms (9 unruptured and 3 ruptured) were recruited.

Calculating intra-aneurysm flow uses optical flow with computational fluid dynamics simulation on the numerical analysis. This is a new method to better understand the intravascular flow and aneurysm flow as well as factors related to the inflow vortex and the inflow jet which increase the rupture risk in patients with an aneurysm.

The anesthetic management of patients undergoing endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms in the interventional neuroradiology suite can be challenged by hypothermia because of low ambient temperature for operating and maintaining its equipments. We evaluated the efficacy of skin surface warming prior to induction of anesthesia to prevent the decrease in core temperature and reduce the incidence of hypothermia.

In patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), vasospasm remains one of the major complications. The application of intravenous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) has been under discussion to prevent cerebral ischemia. Our aim was to examine the impact of early MgSO4 administration on local cerebral microcirculation during microsurgical clipping of SAH-related aneurysms.

Embolic stroke is a common complication of atrial myxoma, whereas multiple cerebral aneurysms associated with atrial myxoma is rare. The pathogenesis of the cerebral vascular disease related to an atrial myxoma is still not well known, and there are no guidelines to guide treatment and anesthesia management in such patients.

Fibrin-associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (FA-DLBCL) is a rare Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positive lymphoproliferative disorder included in the current World Health Organization (WHO) classification. It arises within fibrinous material in the context of hematomas, pseudocysts, cardiac myxoma or in relation with prosthetic devices.
