The participants included a hematologist and vascular physiologist, neuroradiologists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons from a number of countries including Canada, France, the People's Republic of China, the former Soviet Union, and the United States of America. They represented that small group of individuals who are actively pursuing the problems of aneurysmal and vascular malformation evolution and rupture with the intention of managing these lesions endovascularly.

Epidermal nevus syndrome is a group of congenital neuroectodermal and/or mesodermal disorders characterized by the epidermal nevi in common association with cerebral, eye, skeletal, cardiovascular, and renal abnormalities. Epidermal nevus syndrome is a rare syndrome, and epidermal nevus syndrome with the mutation of PTCH1 gene and cerebral infarction is even rarer and has not been reported to the best of our knowledge.

Human genetics, statistical epidemiology, social and behavioral studies, health disparities and health outcomes, are of major interest. In addition to coursework, students are required to attend weekly seminars.
