Two species of genus Pueraria ((Pueraria lobata (synonym: Pueraria montana var. lobata) and Pueraria mirifica (synonym: Pueraria candollei var. mirifica)) are traditional plants used in medicine since ancient times. These plants have been used and became commercially crucial indigenous medicinal plants.

Flavonoid compounds are secondary plant metabolites, having a functional importance in plant development, protection from pathogens and unfavorable environmental factors. Chalcone synthase (CHS) is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of flavonoids; it is involved in biosynthesis of all classes of flavonoid compounds.

Anthocyanins are common substances with many agro-food industrial applications. However, anthocyanins are generally considered to be found only in natural plants. Our previous study isolated and purified the fungus Aspergillus sydowii H-1, which can produce purple pigments during fermentation.

The aim of this study was to analyse the expression profile of CHS in wheat genotype under imposed drought stress. For this purpose 20 wheat genotypes were treated with different concentration of PEG to imposed rought condition. The result shows very high expression value of CHS gene for genotype HD2733 and K9107 as compared to genotype DBW71 and PBW553 at every level of polyethylene glycol concentration under imposed drought stress condition.

The secondary metabolites of the Artemisia genus are well known for their important therapeutic properties. This genus is one of the valuable sources of flavonoids and other polyphenols, but due to the low contents of these important metabolites, there is a need to either enhance their concentration in the original plant or seek alternative sources for them.

Soybean is a paleopolyploid that has undergone two whole genome duplication events. Gene duplication is a type of genomic change that can lead to novel functions of pre-existing genes. Chalcone synthase (CHS) is the plantspecific type III polyketide synthase that catalyzes the first committed step in (iso)flavonoid biosynthesis in plants.
