Changing antimicrobial susceptibility pattern
-
Antimicrobial resistance in E. coli is of major concern worldwide due to its increasing resistance to several commonly prescribed antibiotics. The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of E. coli. A retrospective analysis of E. coli and their antimicrobial susceptibility was done on urine and pus samples at Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, Shimoga. The present study was conducted to detect such resistant E. coli and to know their susceptibility pattern.

The continuous change in microbial sensitivity to antimicrobial agents necessitates to have knowhow of local susceptibility patterns so as to help clinicians choose the right pathogen specific antimicrobial therapies. This retrospective study assessed the phenotypic characteristics of pathogens isolated from different clinical specimens and their susceptibility to some of second line of antibiotics like Ceftriaxone-Sulbactam-EDTA (CSE-1034), Meropenem, Piperacillin-Tazobactam (Pip/Taz) and Cefaperazone-Sulbactam used in our hospital settings.

Globally, the frequency of bloodstream infections, their epidemiology, invading organisms & antimicrobial susceptibility pattern are always changing and giving rise to new resistance with every passing year. To study the frequency & antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of bacterial pathogens causing bloodstream infections in patients attending tertiary care super speciality institute of Northern India. This was a retrospective clinicallaboratory based study carried over two year period from January 2015 to December 2016 at tertiary health care centre.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is considered as the most common bacterial infectious disease seen among the pediatric patients. Pediatric urinary tract infections are associated with high morbidity and long term complications like renal scaring, hypertension and chronic renal failure The epidemiology of UTI during childhood varies by age, gender and other factors (Bickerton and Ducket, 1985). Most commonly bacteria causes of UTI in children are members of Enterobacteriaceae, particularly uropathogenic strains of E. coli and Klebsiella spp.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in humans after respiratory tract infection. E.coli remains the leading uropathogen being responsible for UTI. The aim of the study is to assess the resistance pattern of E.coli causing UTI to commonly used antibiotics, so as to aid the clinician in changing the appropriate antimicrobial empirical therapy. E.coli isolated from urine samples were identified by conventional biochemical test. Antimicrobial susceptibility test was done by Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion method on Mueller–Hinton agar.

Neonatal sepsis is a blood stream infection which is seen in the first month of life of the neonate. Bacterial profile of neonatal septicemia is constantly changing thus, current knowledge on the patterns of bacterial isolates, its antibiotic resistance profile, and associated factors, are essential to design and implement appropriate interventions.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial illnesses and hence one of the most important indications for antibiotic treatment. Current knowledge of the common organisms implicated in causing UTI in the local community and surveillance to monitor the changes in susceptibility of uropathogens are imperative to ensure appropriate therapy.

Historically, S. aureus has been one of the most common pathogens which caused pyogenic local and systemic infections in both hospitals and community. Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is associated with multidrug resistance, an aggressive course, increased mortality and morbidity in both community and health care facilities. This cross sectional study was carried out in a 70 burn patients from May 2016 to July 2018 at DR.S.C.G.M.C, Nanded India. Swabs were taken and cultured for bacterial isolation and identification following standard operative procedures.
