  • CuO nanoparticles were synthesized by alcohol-assisted hydrothermal method at various pH values, using sodium hydroxide as a precursor for pH control. The chemical composition, morphological and structural properties of the obtained CuO nanoparticles were investigated by the Raman and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopies, the field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and the X-ray diffraction.

  • In the study, SnO2/ZnO core/shell nanowires were synthesized through the two-step processes. First, SnO2- core nanowires were synthesized from Sn powder source at 750 oC by a chemical vapor deposition method (CVD). The ZnO shell was then deposited on SnO2 nanowires by a DC sputtering method.

  • The networked ZnO nanowires (NWs) are synthesized by thermal evaporation at 900 ˚C, using a mixture of ZnO and graphite. The morphology, crystalline structure, and chemical composition of the NWs are evaluated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive spectrum.

  • Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are established sensitive materials for chemical gas sensors due to their superb sensing characteristics and the achievable manifold in their analyte interaction properties. Their sorption properties are determined by the metal ion center and substituents attached to the periphery of the ring system. Similarly, vic-dioximes can be modified in their sorption properties and employed as sensitive materials.

  • Iron oxide nanorods were synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method. The structural and morphological characteristics of the as-synthesized nanorods were analyzed by Xray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the iron oxide nanorods include the mixture of Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3 and FeOOH with the diameter and the length of iron oxide nanorods to be 30 and 100 nm, respectively. The iron oxide nanorods were then dispersed and deposited on the gold electrode of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) for the gas sensor.

  • What kind of film is it whose protagonists are forbidden to speak; whose surfaces are avisual, often consisting only of paragraphs of text or tables of numbers; 1 whose climactic moment is the receipt of a file of old documents; whose director laments, ‘Nobody wants to talk to [me]. There is nothing to see. ... What is there to film in any case?’ 2 The chances are that it is a film about information. These days, many of the images that appear to our senses 3 are no more than the effects of the information that generated them.

  • Harrison's Internal Medicine Chapter 30. Disorders of Smell, Taste, and Hearing Smell The sense of smell determines the flavor and palatability of food and drink and serves, along with the trigeminal system, as a monitor of inhaled chemicals, including dangerous substances such as natural gas, smoke, and air pollutants. Olfactory dysfunction affects ~1% of people under age 60 and more than half of the population beyond this age. Definitions Smell is the perception of odor by the nose. Taste is the perception of salty, sweet, sour, or bitter by the tongue.
