Increasing public concern about the potential damage of chemical inputs in agricultural production systems has challenged industry to develop new and effective pest management and control strategies against insect pests, diseases and weeds. These new strategies must be less harmful to the environment than the current, chemical-based ones, and they must also safeguard the health of agricultural workers and consumers.

The present field experiment was conducted to scrutinize the options available for chemical weed management in irrigated linseed at Agricultural Research Farm, Powerkheda, Madhya Pradesh during two consecutive Rabi seasons of 2017 and 2018. The findings of the study reveal that, in linseed crop sown under irrigated condition, pre- emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1 kg/ha fb application of metsulfuron methyl @ 4g/ha g responded well in terms of effective weed control and obtaining higher yield. Also, Maximum Net return of Rs.40939/ha with B:C ratio 2.

Presence of diverse weed flora during critical period of crop-weed competition, is one of the major obstacles in conservation agriculture that reduces which can reduce the crop yield appreciably significantly. During critical period of crop-weed competition, chemical method of weed control is by far the most preferred way to minimize the weed infestation of weeds, farmers are mostly relying on chemical methods of weed management.

Rice is an important food crop extensively grown in India. Several factors are responsible for reducing the rice productivity in worldwide. However, weed infestation is the major biotic threat to productivity of transplanted rice. Weeds are competed with rice by their high adaptability and faster growth, dominate the crop habitat and reduce the yield potential of rice. Weed management is an important agro-technique for successful transplanted rice cultivation. It can be achieved, either manual or mechanical or chemical weed control methods.

A field experiment was conducted during 2013-14 and 2014-15 in Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat-13. The objective of the study was to understand the effect of different chemical weed management practices in ginger under different intercropping systems. A total of 18 numbers of treatment combinations were considered, which comprised of 4 inter-cropping systems along with 4 weed management practices and 2 sole crop treatments. Cowpea in between rows of Ginger and incorporated at 40 days after sowing (DAS) recorded better results in terms of weed and crop parameters.

Weeds are the part and partial of crop production since evolution of agriculture. Because of their superiority, efficiently harness favourable microclimate at the cost of crop. They mainly compete for mineral nutrients, soil moisture, space and light interception. In berseem field we can successfully achieve weed control below economic threshold level by adapting both precautionary and curative measures in an integrated manner.

The activity of dehydrogenase (µg TPF produced g-1 day-1 ) followed decreasing trend from before treatment imposition to 3 days after treatment imposition thereafter it showed increasing trend. Sulfonyl urea herbicides had the lower dehydrogenase activity immediately after herbicide application as compared to the other herbicide group’s viz., chloroacetamide, triazolepyramidine, pyramidinethiobenzole and aryloxyphenoxy propionate. Urease activity (g of NH4 + released g-1 soil 2 hr-1 ), increased from 0 DAT up to 45 DAT and thereafter it decreased.

Rice production has an important role in Indian economy and transplanting being most common practice adopted in the country. Transplanted rice encounters diverse type of weed flora consisting of grasses, sedges and broad-leafed weeds as well as sedges. Effective control of these weeds at initial stages can ensure in increasing the productivity of this crop. Weed control in transplanted rice by mechanical and cultural methods is quiet expensive. At peak period of crop weed competition due to labour crises weeding gets delayed.
