The synthesis of ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles was performed using the solution combustion method with three types of fuel, namely urea, glycine, and ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) with precursors (Zn(NO3)2.6H2O and Fe(NO3)3.9H2O. The combustion process was conducted in an open space at 300 °C for ± 1 h, resulting in a brownish-black ZnFe2O4. Meanwhile, the fuel type used in the process affects the physicochemical properties of ZnFe2O4.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common and persistent environmental pollutants produced during the incomplete combustion of fuels. They are known for their carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. Thus, their removal from water bodies is highly crucial and has become a critical issue globally. As a solution, here an electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) membrane with a mean fiber diameter of 2.74 ± 1.3 μm was produced by electrospinning. Water contact angle (WCA) analysis confirmed the hydrophobic nature of the PCL membrane with a WCA of 124°, which remained stable over time.

The ability of the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus P2 to grow on organic and inorganic sulfur sources was investigated. A sulfur-free mineral medium was employed with different sources of carbon. The results showed that inorganic sulfur sources display growth curve patterns significantly different from the curves obtained with organic sulfur sources. Combustion of fossil fuels leads to the atmospheric emission of sulfur oxides that contribute to acid rain and air pollution.

: Porous magnetite (Fe3 O4 ) and hematite (α-Fe2 O3 ) nanoparticles were prepared via the sol-gel auto-combustion method. The gels were prepared by reacting ferric nitrates (as oxidants) with starch (as fuel) at an elevated temperature of 200 °C. Different ratios (Φ) of ferric nitrates to starch were used for the synthesis (Φ = fuel/oxidant).

In this study, conversion of seaweeds into hydrochars was investigated with the aim of obtaining a renewable energy feedstock. The seaweeds Fucus serratus and Alaria esculenta, and a mixture of seaweeds, mainly consisting of Cystoseria sp. and Laurencia sp., were subjected to hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) in subcritical water at three different temperatures: 200, 225, and 250 °C. Fuel characteristics and chemical properties of the derived hydrochars were determined using the standard fuel analysis and spectroscopic methods.

In this study, titanium dioxide was synthesized via solution combustion method. Titanium(IV) oxysulfate was used as a titanium source. The fuel type, reaction time, and reaction temperature were tested for optimization. The glycine was set as a suitable fuel. Structural properties of the final product were characterized by p-XRD. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET techniques were used to examine the morphology. The synthesized products were compared to the commercial TiO2 and it was found that the titanium dioxide with the high surface area (63.

A gas mixture representing oxy-fuel combustion conditions was employed in a thermogravimetric analyser to determine the effect of water vapor and SO2 concentration on limestone sulfation kinetics over the temperature range of 800 to 920°C. Here, experiments used small samples of particles (4 mg), with small particle sizes (dp < 38 µm) and large gas flow rates (120 mL/min@ NTP) in order to minimize mass transfer interferences. The gas mixture contained 5000 ppmv SO2, 2% O2, and the H2O content was changed from 0% to 25% with the balance CO2.

The present investigation is emphasized on the effect of various combustion agents on the crystal properties, surface microstructure, and oxygen ion conductivity of 20% mole-Sm doped ceria (Ce0.80Sm0.20O1.90/SDC20) ceramics as solid electrolyte for ITSOFCs. The most widely used combustion agents for engineering ceramic production as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, L-alanine, L-valine, glycine, citric acid monohydrate, urea, and EDTA-citric acid were compared in terms of SDC20 properties.

This work presents the experimental studies of acacia woodchip gasification in a downdraft gasifier with two stages air supply. The effects of oxygen concentration in gasified agent on the temperature of gasifier, the syngas composition, the lower heating value and tar content in the producer gas are investigated. Results indicate that oxygenenriched air rate not only favors to reduce tar component but also improves the heating value of the producer gas.
