The pathotypes of Ascochyta rabiei, which causes ascochyta blight, show a high pathogenic variation. Forty-four chickpeas, including 26 cultivars commonly cultivated in Turkey and 18 global genotypes, were characterized for resistance status to ascochyta blight following inoculation with four pathotypes of A. rabiei. The pathogenicity experiments were conducted using the whole-plant inoculation method and completely randomized designs with three replicates.

Chickpea is best nutritional crop in leguminous species, and biotic and abiotic stress affects the yield loss around 50 to 60 % .For preventing yield loss from this stress, it is necessary to developed high yield, qualitative variety of chickpea. In vitro methods are best technique for regeneration and development of transgenic variety of chickpea. In this investigation research to determine chickpea in vitro micropropagation was studied in genotypes; of chickpea JG62, JG63 JG315, VIJAY and Bhupdachana with explants immature cotyledonary and embryonic axis.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is among those major pulse crop which is majorly grown along the semi-arid and arid regions across the world, most often on saline soils chickpea is highly sensitive to salinity and its growth is highly affected. The main aim of this study was to examine the affect on germination and early stages of growth in chickpea by different salt concentrations in solutions. So that to determine the safe degree of salinity that can be used for the crop cultivation.

India is the largest producer and consumer of chickpea, contributing an elephant share (65 per cent) towards the global chickpea production. However, in recent past the changing climate has lead to the emergence of Dry root rot (DRR) disease in chickpea growing areas, which frequently encounters a prolonged dry spells coupled with high temperature. The disease is posing serious threat to chickpea cultivation by pronounced effect of devastation in susceptible cultivars.

The development of moisture stress leads to a wide range of change in plant processes like diversion of biomass to undesirable plant parts. Therefore, the chickpea genotypes with better biomass partitioning and mobilization efficiency will be suitable for cultivation in the dry land areas.

Pulses occupy a unique position in Indian agriculture. It plays a vital role in fixing atmospheric nitrogen in to Nitrate and make the soil fertile. Banka district is one of the important pulse trading centers in Bihar. Agro climatic condition of Banka as well as Bhagalpur district of Bihar is suitable for main pulses like chickpea and pigeon pea cultivation. An effort has been made to prove the leverage of suitable agro- climatic condition for the pulse crops and agribusiness opportunity available in that area.

Pulses are the edible seeds of plants in the legume family. Pulses grow in pods and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. India grows chickpea on about 8.35 million hectares area with 7.17 million tons of grains which represents more than 40 per cent of the national pulse acreage and production respectively.

Chickpea is one of the most important pulse crops of Gujarat state. In Gujarat, Saurashtra region is one of the most remarkable regions for chickpea cultivation and production. Junagadh district of Saurashtra region is very good producer district. Due to consider the importance of knowledge as a major aspect behind the yield of chickpea production, the present research work was conducted to study the level of chickpea growers’ knowledge about recommended chickpea production technology through ex-post facto research design

Availability of variability for yield and related traits is limited in the cultivated germplasm of chickpea. So the evaluation of backcross and F2 population derived from the cross of chickpea variety GPF2 with 2 accessions of its wild relative Cicer reticulatum viz., EC556270 and ILWC21 was done for yield and related traits. A wide variation was observed for all the characters. There were progenies out yielded the parents in most of the characters.

This study was undertaken in Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Balagaht (M.P.) during the period from 2014-15 to 2017-18 conducted a total 48 frontline demonstration of Chickpea crop. Cultivation practices comprised under FLD viz. use of improve variety (JG -14, JG-130), seed treatment, seed inoculation, spacing 30 cm, soil test based nutrient management, irrigation water management and integrated pest management show that percentage increase in the yield of Chick pea ranged from 22.73 % to 46.11 % over farmer’s practice.

The present experiment was planned integrated management of root rot pathogen in chickpea. Occurrence of root rot disease has become a major constraint in recent years for successful and profitable cultivation of chickpea. The efficacy of Bio-agent viz. Tricoderma viride, Organic amendment viz. neem cake, Plant extract, garlic, and Fungicide, Carbendanzim applied through seed treatment and soil application were evaluated against Macrophomina phaseolina causing root rot disease of Chickpea.

Churu comes under Desert region of Rajasthan and agriculturally it is very important district. In Churu chickpea cultivation is very common but its productivity is very low. To establish the production potential of crop Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) is an appropriate tool. To increase the production and productivity of gram in the district, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gandhi Vidya Mandir, Sardarshahar, Churu-1(Rajasthan) conducted 125 demonstrations on gram during 2015-16 to 2016-17 in four adopted villages.

The study was conducted in the Bhiwani district of Haryana state to study the major factors, which dissuade the farmers to include chickpea in their cropping system. In this study, two blocks Tosham and Siwani were selected randomly from Bhiwani district and from each block; two villages were selected, randomly. Thus, total four villages, namely (Khanak, Kirawar from Tosham block and Gaindawas and Barwa from Siwani block) were selected, randomly.

Front Line demonstrations (FLDs) are the important extension techniques to convince the farmers about latest farm technologies. The present study was conducted to assess the impact of frontline demonstrations Bengal gram crops conducted in the Central Plateau Region of Maharashtra and the Malwa plateau of Madhya Pradesh. Study revealed that improved cultivation practices comprised under FLDs viz., recommended varieties, seed rate, timely sowing and plant protection technology resulted in increase in yield in gram crop over the check plots.

The present study was undertaken during Krishi Mahotsav programme to find out the reasons for less adoption of improved gram production technology among the farmers of Rehli block of bundelkhand region during the year 2014 and 2015. It is found that majority of the respondents (59.90%) had medium level of adoption, followed by those having low (24.56%) and high (15.54%) levels of adoption for the improved practices of chickpea cultivation. Results revealed that there were number of reasons for low adoption of improved chikpea production technology.

In conventional tillage, the traditional practice of opening and turning the soil greatly contributes towards the quick oxidation of organic matter in the soil, quantitative loss of residual soil moisture and high labour and energy input thereby resulting in the poor economic returns for the farmers. However, in some situations tillage causes the soil degradation which results into development of compacted soil having low soil organic carbon (SOC) and restricted drainage.

Chickpea, (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important pulse crops of India, which belongs to family Fabaceae. It occupies very important position in semiarid farming system both for human nutrition and restoring the soil fertility. Occurrence of dry root rot caused by Rhizoctonia bataticola (Taub.) Butler is emerging as a serious biotic constraint in recent years for successful and profitable cultivation of chickpea the efficacy of various fungicides viz.
