LncRNA GAS5 and miR-155 are reported to play opposite roles in lung inflammatory responses. Lung inflammation participates in childhood pneumonia, indicating the involvement of GAS5 and miR-155 in pneumonia. The study aimed to analyze the potential interaction between GAS5 and miR-155 in childhood pneumonia.

Supplemental oxygen is an essential treatment for childhood pneumonia but is often unavailable in low-resource settings or unreliable due to frequent and long-lasting power outages. We present a novel medium pressure reservoir (MPR) which delivers continuous oxygen to pediatric patients through power outages.

Pediatric community acquired pneumonia (pedCAP) is one of the leading causes for childhood morbidity accounting for up to 20% of pediatric hospital admissions in high income countries. In spite of its high morbidity, updated epidemiological and pathogen data after introduction of preventive vaccination and novel pathogen screening strategies are limited.

The present study was undertaken from 30/6/11 – 14/8/12 to know the Bacterial, and Mycological profile profile and drug susceptibility patterns in children suffering from pneumonias. Sputa (expectorated and induced) and Pleural fluid were collected from 113 cases and processed by conventional methods. Antibiotic sensitivity testing of these isolates was done as per CLSI guidelines.

Haemophilus influenzae is strictly a human pathogen, responsible for many diseases like community acquired pneumonia, meningitis, sinusitis, epiglottitis and otitis media. Haemophilus type b (Hib) was the most common strain responsible for all the infections. Non type b strains were at an emerging risk. Ampicillin was commonly used but resistance due to TEM-1gene is being reported. It is aimed to find out whether Hib continues to be isolated from childhood cases of pneumonia and its susceptibility to the drugs of choice and possible mechanisms of resistance.
