The Anatolian water buffalo is a native water buffalo breed only being reared in Turkey. The objective of this study was to investigate gene polymorphisms on exons 4 and 5 of the growth hormone (GH) and on exon 10 of the growth hormone receptor (GHR), which are thought to be related to meat yields of Anatolian water buffalo. Blood samples of 192 water buffaloes from Sivas Province were used in DNA extractions by phenol-chloroform method. DNA samples were amplified by using specific primers in PCR.

The crude extract was obtained by the maceration method of dried power of Parmotrema praesorediosum lichen in methanol. This extract was then separated by the solid-phase extraction and eluted with petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, and methanol in turn to give the corresponding extracts. Two compounds were isolated from chloroform extract by silica gel column chromatography.

Different methods available for extraction of plant genomic DNA suffers from one or more drawbacks including compromised quality, quantity and many more. The extraction of high-quality DNA Simarouba glauca DC is notoriously troublesome due to the high contents of polysaccharides and different secondary metabolites. Herein, we aimed to develop a modified CTAB extraction method to isolate DNA from tissues containing high levels of polysaccharides.

In the present investigation a total of 100 faecal samples/rectal swabs were collected from dogs suffering with gastrointestinal disorders and showing the symptoms of canine parvovirus, like bloody diarrhoea, vomiting and pyrexia. The samples were tested initially with SYBR green dye based real time PCR with different combinations of the cycles and the results obtained were further confirmed by conventional PCR. We could able to standardize the real time PCR which was more helpful in screening of the faecal samples further in large numbers.

The experiment was conducted to assess Microbial biomass carbon and Nitrogen on 84 days organic and conventional incubated soils in Nadia district of West Bengal. Soil microbial biomass carbon & nitrogen is determined by Chloroform Fumigation Extraction method (FE) followed by Kjeldal Digestion method. The results depicted that, microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen was more in organic soil of Phulia and Gayeshpur district rather than conventional method.

A simple and easy protocol for isolation of DNA from major plant pathogen Alternaria spp has been developed in which DNA extracted using CTAB extraction method from fresh mycelium of fungi crushed with sterile sand particles and liquid nitrogen. The DNA was precipitated first with equal volume of phenolchloroform-isoamylalcohol (25:24:1) and further with equal volume of chloroform-isoamylalcohol (24:1). Repeated centrifugation was done at 10000 g for 10 minutes at room temperature.

Antibacterial activities of Black pepper fruit extract were studied against some bacterial strains as- Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, and Bacillus subtilis. The black pepper fruit extracts were prepared in four organic solvents as methanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene. Effectiveness against bacterial strains showed by all extract (which prepared by organic solvent) but the benzene extract showed the maximum growth inhibition 81.20% against Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria at 100µl/ml extract concentration.

The present study was conducted to asses phytochemical and antibacterial activity of various crude extracts viz, pet-ether, chloroform, methanol and aqueous extracts of Salvia aegyptiaca against bacteria and fungi such as Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC Code - 9886), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC Code - 6458), Aspergillus niger (MTCC Code - 872), Aspergillus flavus (MTCC Code - 8790) by adapting agar well diffusion method. The highest percentage of extraction yield was observed in aqueous extract followed by methanol, chloroform and petether extracts.

For many crucial experiments in gene cloning and further identification, purified and high quality genomic DNA is the prerequisite. In plants, polysaccharides and secondary metabolites impurities removal is complicated and time-consuming protocols are available for pigeon pea plant. In present study, rapid and proficient method for DNA extraction was optimized. The method utilizes small amount of plant material to lessen inhibitory agents like polysaccharides and phenolic compound.

Molecular Biology experiments including gene cloning, restriction digestion, identification by 18S r-DNA requires purified and high quality genomic DNA. The major problems in DNA isolation from fungus are impurities such as polysaccharides, protein and RNAs which interfere in PCR reaction. In this study, proficient method for DNA extraction without using liquid nitrogen, CTAB or lysozyme was optimized. The method utilizes very few chemical compounds.

Microorganisms play a crucial role in living organisms. Some microorganisms are beneficial for us some are pathogenic. The aim of the study is to evaluate the activity of the fruits of Artocarpus lakoocha Roxb. against certain pathogenic microbial strains. Petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extract of these fruits were used by disk diffusion method on Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella paratyphi and two fungal strains. All the fruit extracts showed the antimicrobial activity against all the microorganisms.

The extraction of genomic DNA from microbial cells plays a significant role in PCR-based applications such as molecular diagnosis, microbial taxonomy, screening of genetically engineered microorganisms, and other such PCRbased applications. Currently, many methods for extraction of genomic DNA from microorganisms have been developed. However, these methods either require hazardous chemicals or consist of time-consuming steps for effective execution.
