The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between biomarkers of lipid metabolism and gastric cancer. Methods 1120 gastric cancer patients and 1134 health examiners enrolled in this study. The clinic data and serum lipid level, including Total cholesterol (TC), Triglyceride (TG), Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and Highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), were collected.

Ebook "Minerals and lipids profiles in cardiovascular disorders in South Asia: Cu, Mg, Se, Zn and lipid serum profiles for the example of patients in Pakistan" correlates different minerals and lipids serum profiles with the prevalence of cardiovascular disorders in South Asian countries with special emphasis on Pakistan. Cardiovascular disorders (CVD, e.g. coronary heart diseases, hypertension, rheumatic heart disease, angina, heart failure and deep vein thrombosis) show significantly increasing rates in South Asian countries like Pakistan and have become a major health problem.

The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is established as a causative agent of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and lowering plasma LDL-C levels represents the main approach to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Statins remain the cornerstone of drug therapy for dyslipidemia.

Ebook "Cholesterol homeostasis: Methods and protocols" provides state-of-the-art techniques for studying various aspects of cholesterol homeostasis, including its uptake, synthesis and efflux from the cell, as well as its trafficking within the cell. Chapters also cover techniques for studying the regulation of cholesterol homeostasis at both the transcriptional and post-translational levels, as well as studying the membrane topology and structure of cholesterol-related proteins.

Cholesterol and lipids play an important role in sustaining tumor growth and metastasis in a large variety of cancers. ANGPTL3 and PCSK9 modify circulating cholesterol levels, thus availability of lipids to peripheral cells. Little is known on the role, if any, of circulating lipid-related factors such as PCSK9, ANGPTL3 and lipoprotein (a) in cancers.

To determine the effects of simultaneously ingesting glucose and fat on postchallenge glycemia and lipidemia in 12 healthy young Japanese women. The RLP-C rise by fat ingestion was ameliorated by co-ingesting glucose. Fasting TG, RLP-C, ApoB48, and ApoC-III levels predicted postchallenge TG and RLP-C rises.

Elevated plasma cholesterol and/or plasma triglyceride levels in nephrotic syndrome patients are the result of impaired lipoprotein clearance and a compensatory increase in hepatic lipoprotein synthesis. Plasma proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 levels directly correlate to the amount of proteinuria in nephrotic syndrome patients.

Meat from Bos taurus and Bos indicus breeds are an important source of nutrients for humans and intramuscular fat (IMF) influences its flavor, nutritional value and impacts human health. Human consumption of fat that contains high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) can reduce the concentration of undesirable cholesterol (LDL) in circulating blood.

In aging populations, the number of people with high cholesterol levels is increasing. Appropriate management of high cholesterol levels with drugs such as statins may prevent secondary diseases. Despite many studies on the effects of statins on various types of cancer, the effectiveness of lipid-lowering therapy in preventing cancer remains controversial.

Abnormal accumulation of acyl-CoA cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT1) and ACAT1-mediated cholesterol esterified with fatty acids (CE) contribute to cancer progression in various cancers. Our findings of increased CE and ACAT1 levels in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cell lines prompted us to investigate whether such an increase occurs in primary clinical samples obtained from human subjects diagnosed with EOC.

Oncogenic metabolic reprogramming contributes to tumor growth and immune evasion. The intertumoral metabolic heterogeneity and interaction of distinct metabolic pathways may determine patient outcomes. In this study, we aim to determine the clinical and immunological significance of metabolic subtypes according to the expression levels of genes related to glycolysis and cholesterol-synthesis in bladder cancer (BCa).

The hypolipidemic effect of fat spreads containing flaxseed oil (rich plant source of longchain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid) represents the aim of the present study. Such effect was biologically evaluated through assessment of four biochemical parameters that reflect the blood serum lipid profile, namely total cholesterol, low- and high-density lipoproteins

Cholesterol plays vital roles in human physiology; abnormal levels have deleterious pathological consequences. In cancer, elevated or reduced expression of cholesterol biosynthesis is associated with good or poor prognosis, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown.

Statins are widely prescribed to lower plasma low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Though statins reduce cardiovascular disease risk overall, statin efficacy varies, and some people experience adverse side effects while on statin treatment. Statins also have pleiotropic effects not directly related to their cholesterollowering properties, but the mechanisms are not well understood.
