Medicinal plants contain a large variety of chemical compounds in highly variable concentrations, so the quality control of these materials is especially complex. With this purpose, regulatory institutions have accepted chromatographic fingerprints as a valid tool to perform the analyses.

: This paper includes the result of the first study of the chemical composition, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and antidiabetic activities of the essential oils of Glebionis coronaria (L.) Cass. ex Spach and Glebionis segetum (L.) Fourr. from Turkey. In the current study, nine and twenty-eight constituents were determined in the essential oils of aerial parts of G. coronaria (GCE) (92.1%) and G. segetum (GSE) (90.0%), respectively. The main components were capillin (65.9%) in GCE, capillene (53.4%) in GSE. The essential oil compositions were evaluated and compared with previous researches.

Coscinium fenestratum (Gaertn.) Colebr, commonly called as daruharidra which belongs to Menispermaceae family is rich with bioactive secondary metabolites that might signify valuable leads in the production of new pharmaceutical agents. The metabolite accumulation in the plants varies with the environmental factors, expression level of enzymes, climatic conditions etc. To evaluate the difference of metabolite in the cultivated vine, the sample was analysed by High performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS).

By various chromatographic separations, four phenolic glycosides, methyl salicylate 2-Otriglycoside (1), icariside E5 (2), quercetin 3-O-rutinoside (3), and isorhamnetin 3-O-rutinoside (4) were isolated from the methanol extract of the whole plant of Physalis angulata. Their structures were determined by 1D-, 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses and by comparison with reported data. Compounds 3 exhibited significant hepatoprotective activity with an EC50 value of 17.08 µg/mL. This is the first report of 1-4 from Physalis angulata.

Three diterpenoids with ent-kaur-16-ene skeleton, namely, ent-11 -acetoxy-7,14 - dihydroxykaur-16-en-15-one, ent-18-hydroxykaur-16-ene and ent-kaur-16-en-15-oxo-18-oic acid were isolated from the MeOH extract of the dried leaves of Croton tonkinensis Gagnep. (Euphorbiaceae) by successive chromatographic separation on silica gel, ODS gel and HPLC on ODS. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic analyses.
