Hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), is a highly toxic species, while trivalent chromium, Cr(III), is an essential trace element for humans and other organisms. In the present work, a simple, rapid, and efficient procedure for water treatment of Cr(VI) is described. Active carbon (AC) was chemically treated with HCl and NaOH for the formation of surface modified Acidic-AC and Basic-AC sorbents, respectively. In addition, AC sorbent was treated with HNO3 as an oxidizing agent and sodium sulfite as a reducing agent for the formation of Ox-AC and Rd-AC sorbents, respectively.

Influence of sintering additives on the porous structure and mechanical properties of porous alumina
The aim of the present work is to investigate and to compare the influence of the two sintering additives Cr2O3 and TiO2 on the porous structure and the mechanical properties of the sintered porous alumina. Alumina based porous ceramics were fabricated by sacrificial template technique via powder metallurgy route from alumina powder using ammonium bicarbonate (NH4)HCO3 as the pore former. T

Chromium is often added in some functional foods to aid in the treatment of diabetes or in fortified dairy products. The toxicity of chromium depends on the oxidation state. Therefore, it is necessary to identify or quantify chromium species to assess food safety hazards. In this study, the species of Cr (III) and Cr (VI) were determined by liquid chromatography (LC) with collision cell inductively coupled plasma mass specctrophotometry (ICP¬MS).

Adsorption of Cr(VI) from water sample onto the activated carbon cloth with an oxidized surface area
In this study, the initial concentration of Cr(VI), the pH, the adsorption time and the temperature were all looked at as possible factors that influence the efficiency of Cr(VI) adsorption capacity and removal. The Freundlich isotherm provided the best correlation for adsorption of Cr(VI) onto the adsorbents.

Pulse crops are an integral part of Indian agricultural economy next to the cereals and oilseeds in terms of production, productivity and economic value. These crops are richest source of protein and energy but in India such crops are largely cultivated under energy starved and polluted conditions, resulting affecting the metabolic activity and limiting the yield. Agricultural soil contaminated by heavy metals becomes a severe environmental issue in this day due to its potential adverse ecological effects.

Effect of the [U(IV)/U(III)] ratio of fuel salt on selective chromium corrosion and tellurium intergranular cracking (IGC) of Hastelloy N alloy in the LiF-BeF2-UF4 salt mixture was investigated. The chromium corrosion of Hastelloy N alloy is caused by the oxidation of chromium on the alloy surface by reaction with UF4.

The transition metals are a group of metals that are found in the middle of the periodic table. The alkaline earth metals, beginning with beryllium are to the left and the boron group elements are to the right are termed as "transition element". There are more transition metals than any other groups in the periodic table. Transition metals have several general properties. They are harder and less reactive than the alkaline earth metals. They are also harder than the post transition metals. They make colorful chemical compounds with other elements.

To study the impact of radish oil on the possible genotoxic and hepatotoxic effects of hexavalent chromium, male rats were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 served as control, group 2 received radish oil at the recommended human therapeutic dose (0.07 mL/kg) by gavage, group 3 received sodium dichromate dihydrate (SDD) 520 mg/L in drinking water, and group 4 received both SDD and radish oil as previously mentioned in groups 2 and 3. All treatments were continued for six months.

Contamination of agriculture land by heavy metals is a worldwide risk that has sped up noticeably since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Hence, there arise the demands of heavy metal tolerant plant growth promoting bacterial strains for specific metal contaminated agricultural sites restoration. In this study, 36 bacterial isolates were screened out from the rhizospheric soil of Phaseolus vulgaris.

The aim of this research work is to increase the quality, productivity of steel and to reduce the CO2 emissions from the global manufacturing sector. On average, the production of one ton of steel generates about two tons of CO2 emission. The main cause for energy inefficiency and environment pollution are outdated steel production technology in use. The green steel is a new steelmaking process lowers green house gas emission, cuts costs and improves the quality of steel. The new process is known as molten oxide electrolysis and the clever use of iron-chromium alloys.

In order to meet the increasing demand for valve-regulated lead–acid ŽVRLA. batteries, a new soft lead has been produced by Pasminco Metals. In this material, bismuth is increased to a level that produces a significant improvement in battery cycle life. By contrast, other common impurities, such as arsenic, cobalt, chromium, nickel, antimony and tellurium, that are known to be harmful to VRLA batteries are controlled to very low levels. A bismuth ŽBi.-bearing oxide has been manufactured ŽBarton-pot method. ...
