Chromogenic method

Coumarin-based chromogenic and fluorogenic dye 4 was designed and synthesized. The photophysical properties of 4 were determined in solvents with different polarities. Protonation affinity was determined by adding trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) to a dichloromethane solution of dye 4 utilizing the UV-Vis and fluorescence titration methods. The protonation region was investigated by using the 1H NMR method. Additionally, DFT and TDDFT studies were performed to support the structural and absorption spectral properties of 4.

A total of 100 isolates of candida species were recovered from various clinical samples. C. albicans was the most common isolated species (42%) followed by C. krusei (17%) C. tropicalis (15%) C. parapsilosis (13%) C. famata (8%) C. glabrata (4%) and Cryptococcus species (1%). Non albicans Candida were isolated at a higher rate (58%) than C. albicans. Most of the Candida isolate were susceptible to Amphotericin (81%) followed by Nystastin (79%) and Miconazole (58%). Fluconazole was least effective with 79% resistant.

The treatment of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is challenging because of their high resistance to different antibiotics. The objectives of this study were to detect the prevelance of S. aureus and MRSA carriage in ICU patients in Al Quwayiyah General Hospital and to evaluate the performance of MRSA-Select agar media for rapid screening of MRSA Furthermore, to describe the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of the S. aureus and MRSA isolates. During the period from January to July 2018, a total of 278 patients admitted to the ICUs were screened for MRSA.

A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of arsenic using variamine blue as a chromogenic reagent. The method is based on the reaction of arsenic(III) with potassium iodate in acid medium to liberate iodine, which oxidizes variamine blue to form a violet coloured species having an absorption maximum at 556 nm.

Enterococci may be resistant to penicillins via two distinct mechanisms. The first is β-lactamase production (mediating resistance to penicillin and ampicillin), which has been reported for E. faecalis isolates from several locations in the United States and other countries. Because the amount of β-lactamase produced may be insufficient for detection by routine antibiotic susceptibility testing, isolates from serious infections should be screened specifically for βlactamase production with a chromogenic cephalosporin or another method.
