Chronic granulomatous disease
-
Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by granulomatous vasculitis that predominantly manifests as panaortitis. This occlusive thromboaortopathy lacks pathognomonic features often resulting in a diagnostic dilemma leading to its underrecognition, misdiagnosis and delayed management.

Pulmonary actinomycosis is a chronic disease characterized by abscess formation, draining sinuses, fistulae, and tissue fibrosis. It can mimic other conditions, particularly malignant and granulomatous diseases, and is perhaps extremely challenging to diagnose.

The number of reports on sarcoidosis complicated by hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is limited, and most describe cases complicated by chronic bird-related HP. Here, we present for the first time a case with Propionibacterium acnes-associated sarcoidosis complicated by acute bird-related HP.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease caused by CD4+ cell-dominant inflammation. Meanwhile, diffuse panbronchiolitis is a chronic inflammatory respiratory disease predominantly caused by CD8+ lymphocytes and neutrophils. Herein, we report a rare case of sarcoidosis in which the clinical presentation had become evident as diffuse panbronchiolitis after splenectomy for sarcoidosis.

Actinomycosis is a rare, chronic granulomatous disease caused by Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria that colonize the oral cavity. Cervicofacial actinomycosis is the most frequent clinical presentation of actinomycosis, but hematogenous osteomyelitis at distant sites can occur in rare instance in immunocompromised or pediatric patients, only a few cases have been reported in healthy patients.

Cryptococcosis is an acute, subacute or chronic fungal disease caused by an encapsulated Basidiomycetes yeast belonging to the genus Cryptococcus. Among the many species of the genus “Cryptococcus” ubiquitously present in the environment Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii are clinically significant. Cryptococcal meningitis is considered as an AIDS defining condition and is the most common fungal infection of the central nervous system in patients with or without impaired immune function.

Sporotrichosis is a sub-acute or chronic granulomatous fungal infection involving primarily the skin and subcutaneous tissue with neighbouring lymphatics caused by a dimorphic fungus Sporothrix schenckii. The disease is worldwide in distribution. In India sporotrichosis is endemic in the Sub-Himalayan region; stretching from West Bengal, Assam and Manipur in the North East and Himachal Pradesh in the North West.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare potentially fatal illness characterized by impaired natural killer and cytotoxic T cell function. Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is an inherited immune deficiency caused by a defect in the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase complex.

Chronic granulomatous disease is a rare inherited disorder of the innate immune system. In patients with a clinical history of recurrent or persistent infections, especially infections caused by uncommon species, chronic granulomatous disease should be considered.

Botryomycosis is a rare chronic suppurative granulomatous bacterial infection, which can present as cutaneous or visceral disease. We present a case of cutaneous botryomycosis in a 68-year-old female patient, who presented to the Skin outpatient clinic with indurated nodular masses along with discharging sinuses, on the lower abdomen, persisting for the past 10 years. The patient underwent various treatments elsewhere with no improvement. Mycetoma, botryomycosis, and actinomycosis were considered as differential diagnoses.

Johne’s disease (Paratuberculosis), a debilitating chronic granulomatous enteritis of domesticated and wild ruminants that causes huge economic and production losses to the dairy farmers. A six-year-old Jersey crossbred cow was presented with a history of chronic diarrhoea, gradual weight loss, reduction in milk yield and poor response to therapy. Based on history, clinical examination, ZiehlNeelsen staining and IS900 polymerase chain reaction of the faeces the case was diagnosed as Johne’s disease.

Tuberculosis and sarcoidosis are chronic diseases that rarely occur concomitantly. Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disorder characterized pathologically by the presence of non-caseating granulomas in involved tissues. Tuberculosis is infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis characterized by granulomas with caseous necrosis. Case presentation: We present a case of 43-year-old female refugee from Kosovo with microbiological confirmation of pulmonary tuberculosis and pulmonary and skin sarcoidosis at the same time.

An external consultant was also hired to develop tools and carry out computerized analysis of data for the baseline and end-line surveys. An orientation session on data collection was provided to a team of five persons from each of the five target provinces of Thanh Hoa, Quang Ngai, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh, to help them understand the questionnaires and how to fill in data. These surveys reached up to 734 individuals, comprising 416 women with children under five, and 318 day care workers. Results of two surveys were available in late September and late...

This marrow section shows the marrow cavity replaced by fibrous tissue composed of reticulin fibers and collagen. When this fibrosis is due to a primary hematologic process, it is called myelofibrosis. When the fibrosis is secondary to a tumor or a granulomatous process, it is called myelophthisis. Diagnosis While the clinical picture described above is characteristic of chronic IMF, all of the clinical features described can also be observed in PV or CML.

Disorders of the Mononuclear Phagocyte System Many disorders of neutrophils extend to mononuclear phagocytes. Thus, drugs that suppress neutrophil production in the bone marrow can cause monocytopenia. Transient monocytopenia occurs after stress or glucocorticoid administration. Monocytosis is associated with tuberculosis, brucellosis, subacute bacterial endocarditis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, malaria, and visceral leishmaniasis (kala azar).

Chronic Granulomatous Disease Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a group of disorders of granulocyte and monocyte oxidative metabolism. Although CGD is rare, with an incidence of 1 in 200,000 individuals, it is an important model of defective neutrophil oxidative metabolism. Most often CGD is inherited as an X-linked recessive trait; 30% of patients inherit the disease in an autosomal recessive pattern. Mutations in the genes for the four proteins that assemble at the plasma membrane account for all patients with CGD.
