Among other factors, infectious diseases are the real threat to the poultry development. Of the various infectious microorganisms Escherichia coli and Mycoplasma are of prime importance. These microorganisms persist for reasonably long periods in the flocks and there by lead to high economic losses through mortality, loss of weight and production. E. coli cannot readily infect the air sacs unless they are previously invaded by Mycoplasma gallisepticum alone or in combination of either infectious bronchitis or Newcastle disease virus.

Avian mycoplasmosis is responsible for heavy economic loses to the poultry industry in India. It results from a complex interaction of various factors like viral, bacterial and housing conditions. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) belongs to class Mollicutes is small in size, lacks bacterial cell wall with minimum genetic information. It is the principle pathogenic agent causing Chronic Respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens and infectious sinusitis in Turkeys and has a worldwide distribution.

Avian mycoplasmosis is one of the most prevalent problem of poultry industry leading to heavy economic losses. Out of the various identified species of Mycoplasma, Mycoplasma gallisepticum is the principle causative agent of Chronic Respiratory disease (CRD). A variety of factors are responsible for the heavy death rates, including bird handling, age of flock, ventilation facilties, location of the farm, vaccination status of the birds, transportation, various environmental factors.

Mechanical Ventilation for children with Lung Disease: ALI, ARDS, and Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure.
Post-natal infections not only occur more frequently in children stunted in utero but also promote stunting post-natally in young children, particularly in low- and middle-income settings where a high prevalence of infectious illnesses combines with poor sanitation to facilitate fecal- oral transmission of diarrheal and parasitic illnesses (Grantham-McGregor et al 1999b).

Leprosy, first described in ancient Indian texts from the sixth century B.C., is a nonfatal, chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, whose clinical manifestations are largely confined to the skin, peripheral nervous system, upper respiratory tract, eyes, and testes. The unique tropism of M. leprae for peripheral nerves (from large nerve trunks to microscopic dermal nerves) and certain immunologically mediated reactional states are the major causes of morbidity in leprosy.
