Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is chronic inflammation of middle ear and mastoid cavity with recurrent ear discharge lasting for more than 6months. Studies are mainly done on the bacterial aetiology of CSOM, but very little is known about the fungal aspects of such cases. Otomycosis is increasing in the recent years because of the indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, corticosteroids, and an increase in the number of immune deficiency disorders.

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a persistent, insidious and potentially dangerous disease because of its various fatal complications. It is still a significant health problem in developing countries. It is the common cause of conductive deafness. Change in the bacteriological scenario with indiscriminate use of antimicrobial agents has been associated with the emergence of multiple drug resistant strains. Information regarding the common pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivities is essential for the proper choice of antibiotics.

Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear cleft without reference to etiology or pathogenesis. Otitis media is more common in children, as their Eustachian Tube is shorter, narrower and more horizontal than the adult ear. Therefore, the study of microorganisms commonly associated with CSOM and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern is vital for the clinician to plan a general outline of treatment for the patient with a chronically discharging ear.

Otitis Media is inflammation of the middle ear, which often causes hearing loss. It is one of the common ear infections addressed very frequently. Appropriate treatment at right time is necessary to prevent adverse complications. The common bacteria causing Otitis Media are Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter species, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and common fungi causing otitis media are mainly Candida non albicans and Aspergillus species.

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is a well known disease for its persistence and recurrence in spite of treatment. It was found to be the single major cause of conductive deafness, speech disorders. It involves considerable morbidity and can cause extra and intracranial complications. Due to development of beta lactamase producing microorganisms, drug resistant strains emerge making drug resistance a major cause of treatment failure. The isolation of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was reported within 1year of introduction of methicillin.

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) causes preventable deafness and disproportionately affects children living in poverty. Our hypothesis was that health promotion in women’s groups would increase their knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) regarding ear disease and reduce the prevalence of CSOM in their children.

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is one of the most common diseases of the ear of all age groups. It is a destructive and persistent disease with irreversible outcome and a major health problem in developing nations with low socio-economic civilization because of malnutrition, overcrowding, poor hygiene and inadequate health care and laboratory facilities. Aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are the important causative agents of CSOM.

In January 2010, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton articulated a powerful vision of the Internet as promoting freedom and global political transformation and rewriting the rules of political engagement and action. Her vision resembles that of others who argue that new media technologies facilitate participatory politics and mass mobilization, help promote de- mocracy and free markets, and create new kinds of global citizens. Some observers have even suggested that Twitter’s creators should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in the 2009 Iranian protests.
