Chrysanthemum coronarium

Heavy metal pollution of agricultural soils resulting from wastewater irrigation has been causing major concern due to the potential risk involved. In the present study, food-crops (Chrysanthemum coronarium; Ocimum basilicum; Coriandrum sativum), irrigation water, and corresponding agricultural soil were assessed for Pb and As contamination.

The study has revealed that significantly highest number of flowers per plant (28.00), highest flower diameter (7.83 cm) and highest flower yield per hectare (25.25 q) were observed by application of nitrogen at the rate of 200 kg ha-1 in combination with potassium at the rate of 150 kg ha-1 . Non-significant changes were observed in the available organic carbon content in the soil at the end of the experiment when compared with the application of nutrients before the experimentation.

An experiment was conducted to study the phenotypic characterization of mutants from different species of annual chrysanthemum by treating the seeds of different species of Chrysanthemum coronarium (Cco), Chrysanthemum segetum (Cse) and Chrysanthemum carinatum (Cca) with various doses of gamma rays (Cobalt-60) at National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. Immediately after the mutagenic treatment, the nurseries were raised and further transplanted in the field.
