In this study, the synthesis of new monostyryl (BDPY-2) and distyryl BODIPY dyes (BDPY-4, BDPY-5) containing pyridine groups has been reported for the first time. The acetylcholinesterase from Electrophorus electricus (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase from equine serum (BuChE), α-glucosidase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and DNA hydrolytic cleavage actions of BDPY-2, BDPY-4, BDPY5 were investigated using various techniques. The results indicated that the compounds had varying inhibition properties against AChE, BuChE, and α-glucosidase.

In this study, one complete mitochondrial genome of the hermaphroditic swan mussel, Anodonta cygnea, is sequenced and compared to the complete mitochondrial genome of the gonochoric duck mussel, Anodonta anatina. An in silico assessment of novel proteins found within freshwater bivalve species (known as F-, H-, and M-open reading frames or ORFs) is conducted, with special attention to putative transmembrane domains (TMs), signal peptides (SPs), signal cleavage sites (SCS), subcellular localization, and potential control regions.

The modification of cement mortars with small amounts of water-soluble polymers (polyvinyl alcoholacetate, methylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose) is studied. During hardening, two processes can take place, i.e. cement hydration and polymer film or bridge formation. Due to the very low polymer contents, the formation of polymer films is generally not considered. In this paper, evidence is given of the presence of polymer films or bridges in mortars modified with 1% of polyvinyl alcohol-acetate or methylcellulose. A contribution to the flexural strength of these mortars is found.
