Microbiology laboratory results are complex and cumbersome to review. We sought to develop a new review tool to improve the ease and accuracy of microbiology results review. We observed and informally interviewed clinicians to determine areas in which existing microbiology review tools were lacking. We developed a new tool that reorganizes microbiology results by time and organism.

The present study was done to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida species by Disc diffusion method which is helpful for guiding therapy. All clinical samples sent to the Microbiology laboratory were inoculated on to Blood agar and MacConkey agar. The suspected colonies of Candida were identified by Gram stain and inoculated onto CHROM Candida differential agar for speciation.

Post-operative wound infections remain a serious problem in spite of modern standards of preoperative preparation, antibiotic prophylaxis and operative technique. This study was undertaken to Isolate aerobic bacterial pathogens from clinically suspected post-operative wound infections and to determine their antibiogram. Samples that were sent to Microbiology laboratory from clinically suspected cases of post-operative wound infections were processed further.

This study was carried out to identify and phenotypically characterise SSIs due to these organisms at a tertiary care centre. Antibiotic susceptibility was ascertained using microbroth dilution. Strict Infection control measures were then put into place to prevent these infections. Infections due to these organisms require prolonged treatment and occasionally even surgery. It is important to have a high index of suspicion to be able to recognise these infections and to identify them in a clinical microbiology laboratory.

Although clinical sample containers can be perceived to be harbouring pathogens on their outer surfaces, a vast majority of healthcare personnel appear to be accustomed to keeping this fact out of their minds due to unknown reasons. The current study provides a cross sectional view of this complex, often ignored, scenario of overlooking subtle infection control practices that may lead to acquisition of potentially infectious bacteria.

The main aim of this study to evaluate the bacterial etiology of wound infections and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. A total of 225 consecutive, non-repeating clinical specimens from various surface wounds were collected following inclusion and exclusion criteria and processed in the Microbiology laboratory from January to June 2012, following standard methodologies.

Urinary Tract Infections are among the most common bacterial infections and account for a significant part of the workload in clinical microbiology laboratories. The rate of yield is almost same for all media i.e., Blood Agar, MacConkey gar, C.L.E.D Agar with Andrade’s indicator and Hichrome UTI Agar. The results obtained after various specific biochemical tests and other techniques, were correlated correctly with the presumptive identification results by Hicrome UTI Agar.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common bacterial infections encountered in clinical practice, which cause morbidity in both hospitalized and out patients. Increasing antimicrobial resistance among bacterial uropathogens is a significant health concern. To determine spectrum of microorganisms responsible for UTIs and their antimicrobial resistance pattern. Urine samples received in microbiology laboratory for culture from 17,135 patients clinically suspected of having urinary tract infection during the study period were processed according to standard protocol.
