As compared to other industries like the cement and chemical industry, the input consumption in Pulp and Paper industry is very high and the output is comparatively very low. The input-output ratio is 8:1. Fibre, energy, water and chemicals are the important inputs in paper manufacture. Both from the quality aspect and also from the cost of production point of view, it is very important to have some norms of the basic inputs, so that the cost of production is maintained at minimum level without...

According to official statistics, the area annually planted to maize in Ghana currently averages about 650,000 ha (Table 1). Most of the maize grown in Ghana is cultivated in association with other crops, particularly in the coastal savannah and forest zones, so planting densities are generally low. Average grain yields of maize are correspondingly modest when expressed per unit land area, averaging less than 2 t/ha. Total annual maize production is currently estimated at just over 1 million tons.

Motion capture methods offer advantages and disadvantages. Let us consider the case of human walking. A walking motion may be recorded and then applied to a computer-generated 3D character. It will provide a very good motion, because it comes directly from reality. However, motion capture does not bring any really new concept to animation methodology. For any new motion, it is necessary to record the reality again. Moreover, motion capture is not appropriate especially in real-time simulation activities, where the situation and actions...

Several years ago I gave a seminar about some of my research. I started out with a very simple example. One of the faculty in the audience interrupted me to say that he had worked on something like this several years ago, but his model was \much more complex". I replied \My model was complex when I started, too, but I just kept working on it till it got simple!" And that's what you should do: keep at it till it gets simple. The whole point of a model is to give a simplied representation of reality. Einstein once said \Everything should be as simple as possible...

In some event detection applications, events of interest occur over a relatively small proportion of the total time: e.g. alarm generation in surveillance systems, and extrac- tive summarization of raw video events. The automatic de- tection of temporal events that are relevant, but whose oc- currence rate is either expected to be very low or cannot be anticipated at all, constitutes a problem which has recently attracted attention in computer vision and multimodal pro- cessing under an umbrella of names (abnormal, unusual, or rare events) [17, 19, 6].

The preface of this book enables me to depict briefly how the thesis came into being and, more importantly, to thank the people who helped me accomplish the project. When I was reading law at Maastricht University Professor Wolfgang Mincke and Professor Caroline Forder gave me the opportunity to study German and English property law. In her tutorials on property law Caroline Forder excited my interest in English property law. In a very stimulating way she supervised a paper I wrote about land registration in Dutch and English law. Her dedication and zeal impressed me very much....

Enterprise project office (EPO) is essentially a support for investment governance and has a strong demand-side role in ensuring the organisation’s investment decision-making will deliver the greatest benefit from the resources available. This includes involvement in organisation strategy development and project and programme identification as well as business cases for investment, resource planning and allocation. It should be able to optimise the allocation of resources to match business priorities, by having complete information on all projects – current and planned.

This version includes some minor revisions made by the Expert Group in June 2004, based on comments received following the Riga Meeting, and revisions to the annexes describing the relevant IFAC Auditing Standards, based on the finalisation of these Standards. The amended version was sent to EU SAIs and discussed at the Liaison Officers Meeting on 4-5 October.

The level of insurance risk may vary during the period of the insurance contract. For example, in a pure endowment policy the insurance risk reduces as the value of the investment increases. Also, in a deferred annuity contract there may be no insurance risk during the savings phase but there is significant insurance risk during the annuity phase. In assessing the significance of insurance risk at the inception of the contract the effect of discounting on the expected cash flows may be significant.

Variations in the number of SMEs reflect changes in the structure as well as the ownership of business and industry in general. Much of the increase in SME registrations in the EU in the 1990s reflected the downsizing and restructuring of large companies. Previously ‘internalised’ services and processes were moved out of companies focusing on their ‘core’ business. Similarly, in transition economies, privatisation and restructuring have led to the creation of new small firms.

Civic Economics and HousingWorks are pleased to present this analysis of the economic impact of General Obligation Bonds issued since 2006 to support affordable housing. Background In 2006, 63% of Austin voters supported the issuance of $55 million in general obligation bonds to support the development of affordable housing in the city. Just short of $50 million has been expended and leveraged to obtain an additional $177 million in development expenditures, for a total expenditure in the city of $226 million.

The main contribution of this paper is that it applies a new measure for competition, called the Boone indicator (see also Boone, 2001; Bikker and Van Leuvensteijn, 2008; Van Leuvensteijn et al., 2007). The basic notion underlying this indicator is that in a competitive market, more efficient companies are likely to gain market shares. Hence, the stronger the impact of efficiency on market shares is, the stronger is competition.

Yet the shift towards health-systems strengthening and its support through the International Health Partnership (IHP+) and other related initiatives offer a framework within which SRH may be more broadly addressed. The support offered to ministries of health by the UNFPA and WHO country offices has been marked by greater collaboration and a stronger functional focus. This has been achieved through harmonization of activities in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework, and by practical engagement of technical working groups and similar structures for SRH.

Health is largely determined by our social, economic, physical and cultural environment. Although, as we move further into the 21st century, we can see improvements for many people, inequalities in health and health outcomes still persist. The differences in life chances are dramatic and there is a direct correlation between low socio- economic status and poor health outcomes4. Health inequalities affect both women and babies.

Two different diaper-changing methods may be used to minimize the risk of transmitting infection from one child to another or to a provider. One method involves the use of gloves and the other does not. The method you select should be used consistently in your childcare setting. Whichever method you choose, you should never wash or rinse diapers or clothes soiled with fecal material in the childcare setting.

We follow in the “constructionist” tradition of mathematician and educator Seymour Papert and his students and colleagues at MIT. In developing the Logo programming language for children Papert argued that programs children write function as mathematical ‘objects to think with’ and that their concreteness affords a powerful kind of learning (Papert, 1980). Later work of Papert’s former students and colleagues (e.g.
