Cluster village approach

Before the intervention the farmers were unaware about the new varieties released regarding black gram and green gram and lack of awareness in following improved pulses production technologies and integrated pest management practices. A pulse farmer realized low production and income.

Cluster front line demonstrations were organized in sunflower crop under NMOOP-2016 to enhance the productivity and profitability by demonstrating Best Management Practices (BMP’s) about 24 ha area in farmer’s fields of KVK operational villages namely Kumarampalli village of Vempalli mandal and Jogireddypalli of Chakrayapeta mandal of Y.S.R district of Andhra Pradesh through participatory approach. KVK scientists demonstrated the BMP’s viz., Sowing of only two seeds per hill under Ridge and furrow system; Adopted Integrated Nutrient Practices viz.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cuddalore District intervened with demonstrations on pulses with cluster approach to increase the production of pulses in Cuddalore district under NFSM-pulse production scheme. The KVK has conducted 50 front line demonstrations in farmer’s fields during the year 2015-16 in black gram in an area of 20ha. Front line demonstration is an appropriate means for demonstration as well as transfer of improved agricultural innovations to the farming community. Two cluster villages viz.

Nacharam one of the NICRA (National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture) cluster village belonging to Khammam (D), Telangana State consists of 7 villages i.e., Nacharam, Colony Nacharam, Gangula Nacharam, Muniya Thanda, Bhadru Thanda, Rama Thanda, Onti gudisa. The major climate challenge is drought because of deficit rainfall observed in every year. The source of irrigation for cultivation of crops is through water streams and borewells.
