The study "Impacts of urbanization and population growth on land cover and coastline changes based on remote sensing and GIS technique for Vietnamese coastal regions" applies two methods to assess the effects of urbanization through land use change and coastline change in Rach Gia, one of the country’s fastest-growing cities in recent decades:(1) Assessment of land use changes: The study utilizes medium-resolution Landsat satellite imagery (30 m) observed at multiple time points from 2010 to 2020.

The paper "A novel approach of neural networks and USLE in smart soil erosion modeling, case study in Southern coastal of Viet Nam" adopted one of the neural networks - the Long ShortTerm Memory (LSTM) to analyze temporal variations in erosion patterns over time, aiding in understanding erosion dynamics. Furthermore, another common soil erosion model - the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was investigated to predict annual soil loss. Our data were extracted from remotely sensed data (DEM - Digital Elevation Model and MODIS) and vector data of the study area.

The findings suggest that perceived or real economic benefits generated support for wind farms, especially when those benefits strengthened livelihoods and land-tenure security of host communities where livelihoods depended on fishing and farming and few employment opportunities exist. The varying consultation processes indicate that need for wind investors and state officials to improve community consultations.

Utilization of Coal bottom ash (CBA) as well as finding the solutions to prevent saline intrusion, meeting the needs of coastal infrastructure development have been considered by the authors of the article for a long time. In this study, the authors focused on analyzing capillary characteristics in order to find a suitable group of CBA particles, which can be applied in the design of foundations with the high ability in restricting or preventing the effects of salt in saline groundwater.

This study used the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmative factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM) and set of five determinants affecting to the city’s AC related to finance, society, infrastructure, human resources, nature. A socio-economic data was conducted in the survey of 1,168 households in DaNang city. The results indicate that city’s AC is strongly correlated with infrastructural, social and natural resources. Thus, the infrastructural, social and natural determinants are the decisive determinants affecting to the city’s AC.

The erosion – deposition of shoreline is not only a natural phenomenon, but also influenced by human activities. In recent decades, these changes occur more frequently with changes in the shape of shoreline, the changes in area of coastal mangroves as well as loss of productive land. In the trend of sea level rise, a study on changes of estuaries is necessary, in order to preserve and develop the mangroves, disposition, production planning infrastructure and civil works, etc.

Droughts can result in heavy crop and livestock losses, in which the poor are usually disproportionately hurt. Poor livestock owners tend to engage in distress sales of livestock at depressed prices, leaving them extremely vulnerable to drought and other shocks in future, and possibly trapping them permanently in chronic poverty. Recurrent droughts in Sub-Saharan Africa over the last two decades have had devastating effects on natural resources and on livelihoods.

In response to climate change, many countries are likely to invest in even more infrastructure for coastal defenses and flood control to reduce the vulnerability of human settlements to climate change. Increased water shortages will increase demand for new irrigation facilities and new reservoirs. Similarly, natural ecosystems can reduce vulnerability to natural hazards and extreme climatic events and complement, or substitute for, more expensive infrastructure investments to protect coastal and riverine settlements.

Shrimp farming is an evolving sector of agriculture that creates important economic opportunities in many rural communities plagued by under and unemployment. This water farming practice relies on the wise and responsible use of coastal natural resources and habitats. The long-term, local success of shrimp farming is also influenced by global market forces, consumer preferences and international food safety standards. Advances depend on accessibility of critical research, educational and laboratory services.
