  • A microbial consortium consisting of Azospirillum, phosphate solubilizing bacterium (Pseudomonas striata), potassium solubilizing bacterium, PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacterium) strain (Pseudomonas sp. B15) and lactic acid bacterium (Leuconostoc mesenteroides) with antifungal activities was prepared. It effect on the growth and biomass of different vegetable seedlings raised in nursery protrays was evaluated in a commercial farmer’s nursery. The microbial inoculation resulted in improved plant height and biomass. The per cent increase in plant height and girth of tomato was 57.

  • An experiment was conducted during 2015 and 2016 to study the effect of growing media and plant spacing on growth and yield of capsicum cv. Orobelle in the mid hills of Himalayas. The media consisting of Soil + Cocopeat + Vermicompost + FYM (2:1:0.5:0.5) proved to be statistically superior over rest of the growing media for almost all the aspects under investigation. All the attributes were better or at par when the plants were spaced at the wider plant spacing (45 x 60 cm).

  • Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) was grown on eight different substrate combinations in 6” plastic pots for two consecutive years at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. The influence of the substrate on vegetative growth, spike production and quality were evaluated. Arka Fermented Cocopeat was used as the main component of all the substrates with different amendments. These were compared with the conventional soil based media. The substrate combination of Arka fermented cocopeat (AFC) + soil + sand + FYM (1:1:1:1 v/v) was found to be most suitable media for pot plant production of tuberose var.
