The intention of this paper is to check whether this correlation vanishes if relevant covariates and a sophisticated estimation method are employed. A two-stage Heckman selection model is estimated where the stock of Nobel laureates per capita is regressed on chocolate consumption per capita.

Coffee production relies on plantations with varieties from Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora species. The first, the most representative in terms of coffee consumption, is mostly propagated by seeds, which leads to management problems regarding the plantations maintenance, harvest and processing of grains.

Several observational studies suggest that coffee consumption may be associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer, but the results are inconsistent. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship of coffee consumption with gastric cancer risk and quantify the dose–response relationship between them.

Coffee contains biologically-active substances that suppress carcinogenesis in vivo, and coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk of malignant melanoma. We studied the impact of total coffee consumption and of different brewing methods on the incidence of malignant melanoma in a prospective cohort of Norwegian women.

Consumption of very hot (> 65 °C) beverages is probably associated with increased risk of oesophageal cancer. First associations were reported for yerba mate and it was initially believed that high content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) might explain the risk.

The price signals of agricultural commodities from markets located in different locations play a very important role in the economy. The price signals guide and regulate production, consumption and marketing decisions over time. Therefore, if markets are not well integrated, the price signals are distorted, which will lead to inefficient resource allocation and hamper sustainable agricultural development.

Another factor that influences demand is the price of related goods. The dramatic fall in the price of computers over the past twenty years has significantly increased the demand for printers, monitors and internet access. Such goods are examples of complements. Formally, for a given good X, a complement is a good whose consumption increases the value of X. Thus, the use of computers increases the value of peripheral devices like printers and monitors. The consumption of coffee increases the demand for cream for many people. Spaghetti and tomato sauce, national parks and hiking...

Exhilarating properties of tea. Its introduction into Europe. Amount consumed. Increase of this consumption. That every variety of tea sold in our American market, if good for anything, is, in a greater or less degree, exciting or exhilarating, is, I believe, generally known. Few would long continue to use an article - even with the addition of cream, milk or sugar - which had no other effect on the system than that of pure water, viz., to quench thirst

Caffeine was conceived for a wide range of readers interested in the effects on human health, nutrition, and physiological function of the methylxanthine beverages and foods—tea, coffee, maté, cola beverages, and cocoa and chocolate products. These products supply one or more of the dietary methylxanthines—caffeine, theobromine and theophylline— and are an integral part of the diet of many people in many countries. The interest in the health effects of both the methylxanthines in isolation and in the products containing them has grown rapidly in recent years.
