In research designs that rely on observational ratings provided by two raters, assessing inter-rater reliability (IRR) is a frequently required task. However, some studies fall short in properly utilizing statistical procedures, omitting essential information necessary for interpreting their findings, or inadequately addressing the impact of IRR on subsequent analyses’ statistical power for hypothesis testing.

Soil transmitted helminths or geohelminths still contribute a major burden to many countries including India. It’s of utmost importance to detect them accurately and timely. Studies on this group of intestinal parasites in adults are rare. Hence, the study explored the usefulness of stool concentration technique and compared them with the direct microscopy for better isolation of the geohelminths in adults. In this study, 254 consecutive stool samples were taken from adult patients of the hospital.

A solution to the problem of homograph (words with multiple distinct meanings) identification is proposed and evaluated in this paper. It is demonstrated that a mixture model based framework is better suited for this task than the standard classification algorithms – relative improvement of 7% in F1 measure and 14% in Cohen’s kappa score is observed.
