The crop has a great potential in future due to respected increase in demand for forskolin widely used in glaucoma, cardiac problem and also used in treatment of certain type of cancer (Shah et al., 1980). Plant growth regulators are group of naturally occurring, organic substances which effect growth processes at minute concentration, synthesized at one plant part and are capable of translocation to site of its action and regulating one or more physiological activity like Photosynthesis rate, Stomatal conductance, Co2 utilization (ppm) and H2O utilization.

The current exploration is anticipated for isolation and characterization of diversified plant growth promoting activities of coleus rhizobacteria and augmentation of coleus plant growth. Anincongruous group of bacteria known as the plant growth promoting bacteria are found in the rhizosphere, they are seen at the root surfaces and in union with roots.

A field experiment was conducted to score the comparative efficiency of biocontrol agents in the management of root borne diseases of Coleus forskohlii (cv.K-8). The crop has a great potential demand for forskolin (Diterpene) with wide application in treating many human diseases. However, the crop has become unpopular among farmers due to the susceptibility to many diseases of which root rot and wilt is the most serious causing loss in tuber yield and makes the crop uneconomical.

A field experiment was conducted to assess the combined effect of bioinoculants on nutrient uptake, forskolin content (diterpene) and tuber yield of Coleus forskohlii (cutivar; K-8). The microbial inoculants such as Azotobacter chroococcum, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Glomus fasciculatum (VAM) were used. Bioagents such as Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas fluorescens were used. Bioinoculants were examined along with graded levels of recommended dose of N and P2O5 with 100% K2O fertilizers. Nutrient uptake showed significant difference among the treatments.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) were isolated from rhizospheres of coleus (Coleus forskohlii) and ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) from different parts of Karnataka. Isolated PGPR strains were screened for their efficacy against three soil-borne pathogens like Fusarium, Ralstonia and Meloidogyne in coleus and ashwagandha. Meloidogyne incognita causes root-knot disease complex and in conjunction with other two pathogens.
