  • Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have been used as an anticancer drug delivery system with high safety and entrapment capacity thanks to their large internal space for drug accommodation, durable structure, and good biocompatibility. However, the treatment efficiency of the bare MSNs is limited due to its drug leakage and burst release. In this study, a phospholipid bilayer was covered on the MSNs surface (MSN@Lip) as a liposomal cap that not only reduced drug leakage but also improved the stability of the colloidal system.

  • In this study, we present an innovation method to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles colloidal solution by Zn2+ precipitation, and using COS and COS-I2 as a stabilizer agent to replace high molecular weight chitosan in previous studies. [17,18,24] It was favorable due to COS with small Mw did not precipitate at alkaline pH. Thus, ZnO/COS and ZnO/COS-I2 composite nanomaterials were prepared in this work will be oriented to use as antimicrobial agrochemicals, and post-harvest preservation.

  • D-arabinitol is a sugar alcohol that is a typical metabolite of Candida species. The hydroxy group owned by D-arabinitol can function as a reducing agent that can reduce Ag+ to AgNPs. The resulting colloid is further stabilized by the addition of a capping agent. The capping agent used in this study was a combination of chitosan 1%(w/w) and PEG 6000 1% (w/w) (2:1) v/v. The formation of AgNPs causes an increase in the surface plasmon resonance spectra of the colloid solution at a wavelength of 430 nm with a slight blue shift.

  • Chitosan has received a lot of attention as a carrier for small interfering RNA (siRNA), due to its capacity for complexation and intracellular release of these molecules. However, one of its limitations is its insolubility at neutral pH and the tendency towards aggregation of its nanoparticles in isotonic ionic strength.

  • The structure and dynamics of networks formed by rod-shaped particles can be indirectly investigated by measuring the diffusion of spherical tracer particles. This method was used to characterize cellulose nanofibril (CNF) networks in both dispersed and arrested states, the results of which were compared with coarse-grained Brownian dynamics simulations.

  • The paper presents the influence of fucoidan (FD) on stability of alumina suspensions in the presence of cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The research results show that fucoidan adsorbs on the alumina surface and that the adsorption decreases in the CTAB presence.

  • Polysaccharides are the main macromolecules of colloidal nature in wines. These compounds play a critical role in stabilizing other molecules in solution and thus modifying the wine processing and organoleptic properties. Different analytical techniques have been proposed for their determination.

  • In the present work, the structuring and stabilising potential of flaxseed gum (FG) in whey protein isolate (WPI) cryo-hydrogels was investigated. The FG presence (0.1–1% wt.) in the heat-treated WPI dispersions (10% wt.) induced strong segregative phase separation phenomena, which were associated with a depletion flocculation mechanism.

  • Crystallization processes of lipid matrices were characterized by X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. pDNA binding ability of SLNs and the stability of pDNA-SLN complexes with DNase I enzyme were also determined by gel electrophoresis. It was determined that all formulations became positively charged with DOTAP®R. They were able to bind DNA and were partially protective against enzyme degradation. Although additional studies are necessary, this study reveals the promising potential of this gene delivery system for gene therapy.

  • Adjuvants are substances that increase the immune response to a given antigen. In the development of novel vaccine adjuvants/ systems, saponins are one of the most attractive molecules due to their altered immunomodulatory activities. In this study, we tried to develop PEG (polyethylene glycol)/cholesterol-based lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to deliver the Astragaloside VII (AST-VII) and potentiate adjuvant properties of AST-VII for the influenza vaccine.

  • The role of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) level elevation in low-grade systemic inflammation was proved with the confirmation of cardiovascular risk assessment. Hence the measurement of hsCRP has got importance to predict the cardiovascular risk among the suspected population. The current market is still looking for a latex based reagent assay which requires minimum instrument setting and technical expertise to perform the test. Hence we have tried to develop a latex based test for hsCRP.

  • High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is an important marker of inflammation to predict the risk of CVDs. Existing reagent system for the detection of hs CRP has its limitation such as higher cost and requirement of sophisticated instruments, which minimize the utility of this effective marker utility in Indian population. The study was aimed to formulate and validate an improved reagent system for the detection of hs CRP. The study was targeted to formulate a latex-enhanced reagent format by selecting inert microscopic latex particles.

  • Micromorphological observations from 3 different published works have been studied to aid understanding of aggregation and of colloids, both unique to soils. Saprolites in Hong Kong included ‘veins’ of different thicknesses and colours. Optical mineralogy identified them as infill from the neogenesis of clays in rock fractures.

  • The silicic acid charge varies with protonation and deprotonation at different pH levels. As an adsorbing species, silicic acid could modify surface charge and affect the colloidal stability of HFO. Electrophoretic experiments revealed that silicic acid lowered particle ζ, decreased the isoelectric point (iep), and allowed HFO to aggregate at a lower pH. Reversal of charge was observed at pH 7.5, 7.0, 6.4, and 6.2 for silicic acid concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mM, respectively.

  • Charging and stability of needle-like TiO2 nanoparticles were studied. Measured iso electric point (IEP) was pH∼4 and lower than that of spherical ones pH∼6. Heat treatment at 400˚C changed the IEP from 4 to 6. The shift is probably due to shape controller (ethylenediamine). The particles aggregate around IEP and thus are chargestabilized. Experimental hydrodynamic diameters of needle-like particles showed a reasonably good agreement with the theoretical diameter. That is, the particles can be dispersed to primary particles.

  • Colloidal silver nanoparticles were synthesized by Co-60 ray irradiation of Ag+ in aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as stabilizer and 0.5 M ethyl alcohol as free radical (OH• ) scavenger. The effect of Ag+ concentration which varied from 1 to 50 mM on the saturated conversion dose (D) of Ag+ into Ag determined by UV-vis spectroscopy and the size of Ag nanoparticles characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were investigated. The dependence of D (kGy) and average size (d, nm) of Ag nanoparticles on Ag+ concentration was found out to be as: D (kGy) = 0.

  • Interfacial systems are frequently encountered in a large variety of phenomena in biology and industry. A few examples that come to mind are adsorption, catalysis, corrosion, flotation, osmosis, and colloidal stability. In particular, surface films are very interesting from a cognitive point of view. Surface science has a long history. For many years, natural philosophers were curious about interfacial phenomena because it was quite clear that matter near surface differs in its properties from the same matter in bulk...
