Colour and browning

Red deer with very pale coat colour are observed sporadically. In the red deer (Cervus elaphus) population of Reinhardswald in Germany, about 5% of animals have a white coat colour that is not associated with albinism. In order to facilitate the conservation of the animals, it should be determined whether and to what extent brown animals carry the white gene.

Bactrocera tryoni and Bactrocera neohumeralis mate asynchronously; the former mates exclusively around dusk while the latter mates during the day. The two species also differ in the colour of the post-pronotal lobe (callus), which is predominantly yellow in B. tryoni and brown in B. neohumeralis.

Garnet-bearing xenoliths are observed within a trachytic dome extrusion in the Hisarlıkaya region (Ankara). These garnets exhibiting greenish-reddish-dark brown colour and ranging in sizes up to 1 cm were examined in terms of mineralogical, geochemical, and gemmological characteristics. Enormous variability in skin colour and patterning is a characteristic of teleost fish, including Salmonidae fishes, which present themselves as a suitable model for studying mechanisms of pigment patterning. In order to screen for candidate genes potentially involved in the specific skin pigment pattern in marble trout (labyrinthine skin pattern) and brown trout (spotted skin pattern), we conducted comparative transcriptome analysis between differently pigmented dermis sections of the adult skin of the two species.

To study the effect of different fungicides against Alternaria leaf spot of ber, fungus was isolated from the infected leaves of ber plant and cultural and morphological study was done through Poison Food Technique to find that the fungus was Alternaria alternata having branched and septate mycelium with light brown to blackish conidiophores in acropetal chain and the conidia having olive green to dark brown colour with transverse and longitudinal septa.

Peace lilies or Spath [Spathiphylllum wallisii Regel.] grown in the garden of AgriHorticultural Society of India at Alipore road, Kolkata, West Bengal are found to be attacked severely by anthracnose disease. The characteristic symptoms appeared on the underside of the leaves near the leaf margins where necrotic lesions were observed with brown wavy margins and ash coloured centres over which light brown to black, superficial, erumpent acervuli, 271.6 – 467.9 x 198.6 – 312.5µ sized with setae measuring 97.6 – 138.8 x 7.6 – 13.9 µ, 1-2 septate, black with pointed tips were observed.

Phomopsis vexans affected stem and fruit of brinjal crop collected from the field and isolated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) produced white cottony growth, sub-aerial mycelial, circular shaped colony with indistinct zonation and good sporulation. Pigmentation is yellow to dark brown colour. Pycnidia formation takes place after 18 to 20 days which are dark brown in colour and scattered distribution on the media surface.

A four years age cow was presented to the Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC), College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad with the history of decreased appetite, depression, decreased milk yield and with swollen mammary gland for four days. General clinical examination revealed increased body temperature of 1040 F and palpation of udder revealed swollen udder and animal is feeling pain on touch. Milk was stripped for testing and found flakes and the colour of the milk is yellowish brown.

The development of reliable, eco-friendly process for the synthesis of nanoparticles is an important aspect of nanotechnology. In the present study, the extracellular synthesis of Silver nanoparticles was done by reducing aqueous Ag+ with the culture supernatant of four different bacterial strains viz. Bacillus flexus, Bacillus pseudomycoides, Cronobacte runiversalis, and Kocuria rosea. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by the change in colour from colorless to brown. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized adopting suggested instrumentations.

Leucaena leucocephala is a medium-sized, multipurpose tree which is a valuable source of pulpwood, small timber, fuel wood, fodder and green manure. Diseased sesame samples were collected from the major growing regions of Andhra Pradesh for molecular and cultural characterization of Alternaria sesami. The collected isolates were characterized based on their conidial length, breadth and beak length and cultural characters (colour of the mycelium, growth on the PDA medium). Of the 12 isolates, most of the isolates were white in their colony colour which later turned into grayish brown, while a few isolates were brown with fluffy growth at the centre.

The biology of brinjal shoot and fruit borer, Luecinodes orbonalis Guenee was studied in the Biocontrol laboratory, Department of Agricultural Entomology, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat during 2016-17. The eggs of brinjal shoot and fruit borer were elongated and oval with creamy white colour. The incubation period ranged from 2 to 3 days (2.36 ± 0.49 days) while, hatchability was 60.0 per cent. The colour of neonate larva was dirty white whereas, full grown larva was pinkish brown in colour.

Anthracnose incited by Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces) Wils. is one of the most destructive and wide spread disease, causing yield losses of 21-70 per cent. The fungus C. graminicola cause anthracnose and leaf blight disease in sorghum. Sorghum plants affected with C. graminicola show small red coloured spots on both surface of leaf; the centre of the spot is white in colour encircled by red, purple or brown margins. Numerous small black dots are seen on the white surface of the lesions which are the fruiting bodies (acervuli) of the fungus.

Alternaria blight is the most common and devastating disease caused by Alternaria cucumerina var. cyamopsidis in Clusterbean. This fungus grows well in Potato dextrose agar and Tomato dextrose agar medium under in vitro conditions. The growth of the fungus was tested using fifteen different media. PDA appeared to be better than other media for the growth of Alternaria cucumerina var. cyamopsidis. The growth characteristics of the fungus such as colour of the colony and sporulation were also different in different culture media. The colony of the fungus was dark brown in colour.
