This revolution is a great trend, affecting the socio-economic development of each country, each region and the world, including Vietnam. This wave of revolution also creates opportunities for significant changes in the banking sector in Vietnam, although it is not in the strongly influenced areas. As the matter of fact, this paper studies the current status of Viet Nam's commercial banking system in the period of 2014-2017, thereby, proposing some recommendations for the improvement of Vietnamese banking system in the context that influence of Industrial Revolution 4.

Credit institutions in Viet Nam regulated under Law on Credit Institutions(1) consist of commercial banks, non-bank credit institutions, and cooperative banks. The commercial banks are allowed to perform all types of banking activities and for profit purpose. The internal audit activity is established under direct supervision of Board of Supervisors (hereafter called BOS), which is elected by General Shareholders’ Meeting. As a consequence, the internal audit activity is expected to retain organizational independence as having direct access to Board of Directors (hereafter called BOD), BOS.

This paper examines the degree of pass-through and adjustment speed of retail interest rates in response to changes in monetary policy rates in commercial banks of Viet Nam during the period 07/2004 to 06/2014. The results show that the degree of pass-through of retail interest rates is incomplete but high (0.7-0.93). The adjustment speed of money market rates & retail interest rates is relatively slow.
