  • Oxidation of bisphenol-A (BPA) was investigated using a sonophoto Fenton-like hybrid process under visible light irradiation in the presence of iron-containing perovskite LaFeO3 catalysts. For this purpose, firstly the perovskite catalyst (LaFeO3) was prepared by the sol-gel method and calcined at different temperatures (500, 700, and 800◦C). The prepared catalysts were characterized using XRD, SEM, FTIR, nitrogen adsorption, UV-vis DRS, and ICP/OES measurements.

  • Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) is an important legume crop due to its high protein content, adaptation to heat and drought and capacity to fix nitrogen. Europe has a deficit of cowpea production. Knowledge of genetic diversity among cowpea landraces is important for the preservation of local varieties and is the basis to obtain improved varieties. The aims of this study were to explore diversity and the genetic structure of a set of Iberian Peninsula cowpea accessions in comparison to a worldwide collection and to infer possible dispersion routes of cultivated cowpea.

  • Rhizospheric microbes have immense potentiality to synthesize and release various compounds, that are regulating plant growth as well as physical and chemical texture of the soil. In this small piece of research, we evaluated the plant growth promoting activity of two different carriers such as charcoal and talc based formulation of Bacillus species. It was observed that, the bio-inoculants were able to enhance the organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in soil, there by promoting growth of test crop plants such as mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) and rice (Oryza satiava L.).

  • An experiment was conducted in cemented pot in “screen house” of the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur during Rabi season 2011-2012, to assess the response of inoculation of rhizobium and application of different doses of iron on nutrient uptake in chickpea. Treatments consisted four levels of iron i.e. 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 ppm and two levels of microbial inoculation i.e. un-inoculation and inoculation of rhizobium. The treatments were replicated four times in completely randomized design (factorial).

  • A lab experiment was conducted at the department of microbiology, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & technology, Pantnagar. MPS activities were measured in liquid media (NBRIP broth) using Ammonium sulphate as N source, glucose and maltose as a carbon source at 10oC. Glucose significantly increased MPS activity and this activity was three times (3610.12PPM) in comparison of maltose (1434.99PPM). The mineral phosphate solubilizing activity was strongly associated with the production of gluconic or citric acids.

  • Nitrogen use efficiency is considered as one of the most yield limiting factor for the rice production in all the rice growing regions of the world. This experiment was conducted to investigate the variation in nitrogen use efficiency of rice cultivars, the selection of rice cultivars with high nitrogen use efficiency, and the relationships of nitrogen use efficiency with the growth characteristics under non-limiting conditions of factors like water, fertilizer inputs.

  • Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) are being increasingly applied to many full-scale plants around the world to treat both municipal and industrial wastewater. However, membrane fouling and energy consumption are significant challenges to broader applications of MBRs. By using a new MBR configuration, this research aims to compare the performance between a conventional MBR and a reciprocation MBR (rMBR) that uses inertial forces without air scouring for fouling reduction.

  • In India, fish consumers prefer three types of retail markets viz., local dry fish market, local fresh fish market and supermarket wherein no stringent food safety measures are followed and monitored. Hence, the present study was planned to analyze food safety parameters for different outlets by collecting equal numbers of fish samples from all three markets of Navi Mumbai region. Proximate composition, biochemical and microbiological parameters were evaluated. Antibiogram for the isolated Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli from these fishes was studied.

  • In the present paper, a comparative study on the synthesis of the metal-organic framework–199 (MOF–199) using the microwave and solvothermal method was demonstrated. The obtained materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms and thermal gravity. The microwave synthesis of MOF–199 was compared with the conventional hydrothermal synthesis. The results showed that MOF–199 could be obtained in a much shorter time with improved yield and textural properties under the microwave irradiation.

  • Urea is the most widely used nitrogen (N) fertilizer, with a projected increase in annual demand of 1.5% in the coming years. After its application to soil, urea undergoes hydrolysis via the urease enzyme, causing increases in the soil pH in the surrounding area of the granules and resulting in NH3 losses that average 16% of N applied worldwide and can reach 40% or more in hot and humid conditions. The use of urease inhibitors is an effective way to reduce NH3 losses.
