  • An experiment was conducted in cemented pot in “screen house” of the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur during Rabi season 2011-2012, to assess the response of inoculation of rhizobium and application of different doses of iron on nutrient uptake in chickpea.   • Passiflora is a large genus in the family Passifloraceae Juss. ex DC. Many Passiflora species are propagated by seed. However, seeds are often slow to germinate and have low germination rates due to seed dormancy factors. This study was conducted to evaluate four different pre-germination treatments on enhancing germination potential in seven Passiflora spp. Germination was monitored every 3 days for 90 days.   • A study was conducted to determine the mycoflora associated with pigeon pea cultivar MA6 and effect of botanicals on growth of mycoflora. The dominant fungi observed on pigeon pea cultivar MA6 seed were Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Penicillium citrinum, P. rubrum, Alternaria alternata, A. solani, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporium. Among the treatments, the sulphate and nitrate treated seeds showed the less number of fungi isolated in comparison to untreated seeds. The nature of fungal flora had changed with prolongation of storage period of pigeonpea seeds.

  • Blackgram is a major kharif pulse crop in Kota district of Rajasthan, which covers more than 25 percent acreage of kharif sown area of the district. However, average yield of the district varying between 5-7.25 q ha-1 which can be enhanced up to 10 q ha-1 or more by the adoption of new varieties and recommended agro-techniques.   • In this investigation two different methods using aqueous solutions of colchicine were used to treat F1 tillers from various Triticum durum x Aegilops tauschii crosses in order to artificially induce chromosome doubling. Treatment of crown root region (uproot) was found effective compared to in-situ (tip) method using treatment of apical meristems of F1 tillers at 2-3 tiller stage. The aqueous solution of colchicine was administered at two concentrations viz., 0.05 and 0.075% in both the methods. The 0.05% colchicine solution was found more effective as more doubled seed was obtained.

Overcome to this practical problem, it was planned to develop a clod crusher cum planker for better seed bed preparation.   • A generic sample normalization method applicable in relative comparison of mRNAs quantified with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is proposed. The method was applied in samples obtained from tomato seeds after osmopriming and aging treatments and from untreated seeds at early imbibition stage, when seeds had not completed germination.
