Syringomyelia (SM) is a common condition affecting brachycephalic toy breed dogs and is characterized by the development of fluid-filled cavities within the spinal cord. The flow of a thixotropic Bingham material past a rotating cylinder is studied under a wide range of Reynolds and Bingham numbers, thixotropic parameters, and rotational speeds. A microstructure transition of the material involving breakdown and recovery processes is modeled using a kinetic equation, and the BinghamPapanastasiou model is employed to represent shear stress-strain rate relations.

This study uncovers a wide range of complex transport dynamics in transiently forced aquifers that has profound implications for the understanding and quantification of solute transport in these important groundwater systems. And the results in this thesis predict that complex transport structures and dynamics arise in natural transiently forced aquifers around the world. When such dynamics do arise, it will lead to mixing and reactive transport patterns that are very different from those predicted by conventional Darcy flow models.

We introduce DASH (Depletion of Abundant Sequences by Hybridization). Right hepatectomy is a complex procedure that carries inherent risks of perioperative morbidity. To evaluate outcome differences between a low central venous pressure fluid intervention strategy and a goal directed fluid therapy (GDFT) cardiac output algorithm we performed a retrospective observational study. We hypothesized that a GDFT protocol would result in less intraoperative fluid administration, reduced complications and a shorter length of hospital stay.
