Composition of the root oil

In Vietnam, there was a report in 1996 on the chemical composition of the essential oils from the leaves and flowers of two cultivars of A. sinensis. Unfortunately, at that time, the authors were not able to investigate the root oil of these plants (Nguyen Xuan Dung et al., 1996). In the present study, we report on the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils obtained from the roots, flowers, fruits, and a mixture of leaves and stems of A. sinensis cultivated in Hung Yen province, Vietnam.

Laggera tomentosa Sch. Bip. ex Oliv. et Hiern (Asteraceae), an endemic Ethiopian medicinal plant, is traditionally used to treat various ailments. Previously, the chemical constituents of the essential oil (EO) of its leaves and inflorescence were documented. However, no data about the chemical compositions of other parts of the EOs of the plant have been reported to date. Moreover, there are no previous biological activity reports on any parts of the EOs of this plant.

The essential oils (EOs) constituents have trade importance due to their bioactivities. In this research, the essential oil of the roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty cultivated in Giresun was obtained by hydrodistillation. Then, the chemical composition and biological activities of Chrysopogon zizanioides root essential oil (CEO) were studied. Thirty compounds were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and the major compounds were determined as isobutyl-angelate (11.15%), α-muurolene (10.56%), α-cedrene (8.42%), α-patchoulene (8.

In Viet Nam, leaves of the plant are used to treat aching tendons, polio, and enteritis, while the roots are used for cough and malaria [31]. As part of our continuing efforts to identify readily-available essential oils for control of mosquitoes, we have assessed the essential oil from leaves of Vitex negundo (Table 1) growing in the wild in central Viet Nam for larvicidal action against Ae. aegypti.
