  • An efficient regeneration protocol was established for a rare plant species, Begonia coptidifolia. Using leaf explants, adventitious shoots were induced on Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium using various concentrations (1.0–10.0 mM) of three cytokinins, 6-benzyladenine (BA), thidiazuron (TDZ) and kinetin (KIN). However, adventitious shoots could not be induced on MS medium supplemented with auxins [α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) or 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)] tested in the 1.0–10.0 mM range.

  • The present investigation was carried out to study the influence of antioxidants on in vitro culture of Gliricidia sepium. Soft nodal stem segments were inoculated on MS medium supplemented with desired concentrations plant growth regulator such as cytokinins (BAP/Kinetin) and different antioxidants. Antioxidants viz., activated charcoal, ascorbic acid, citric acid and polyvinylpyrollidone were used to control the accumulation of phenolic compounds in the culture medium and enhance the rate of micropropagation.

  • In vitro regeneration through seeds were studied in lime (Citrus aurantifolia) by culturing lime seeds on MS media supplemented with BAP (1, 3 and 5 mg/l), Kinetin (1, 3 and 5 mg/l) and their combination with NAA (0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg/l). In reference to increased germination percentage, mean shoot length, mean number of leaves per explant and mean root length, among BAP and Kinetin concentrations, BAP 3 mg/l was found to be the best treatment. In terms of cytokinins and NAA combine effect, BAP 5 mg/l + NAA 0.5 mg/l and Kinetin 3 mg/l + NAA at 0.1 mg/l were found to be the best combinations.

  • Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.), is an important perennial crop cultivated across the globe. The demand for quality planting materials is increasing across the world for the establishment of new orchards, rejuvenation of existing orchards and production of quality nuts. Plant tissue culture is an alternate approach for the production of quality planting material. In this investigation, influence of auxin and cytokinin on somatic embryogenesis in coconut is studied using sliced mature embryos as explants in modified Y3 media supplemented with various concentrations of 2,4-D and kinetin.

  • Five maize lines prevalently used by breeders in the maize program were screened for their ability to form type II callus. Mature seeds were used as explant for in vitro culturing. One inbred line showed high embryogenic response and formed friable, type II calli and also exhibited successful plant regeneration. Ten culture media compositions based on Murashige and Skoog (1962) salts thus investigated differed with respect to the combinations of concentrations of auxins (IBA, NAA, picloram, 2, 4-D) and cytokinins (BAP, kinetin) were used.

  • An investigation was carried out to isolate bacterial endophytes from small millets that have the ability to produce phytohormones like indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), cytokinin and1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase. Thirty two bacterial endophytes are isolated from small millets and among thirty two isolates, twenty isolates produced indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in the range of 96.70 μg to 254.95 μg and the isolate KMS1 produced significantly highest concentration of IAA (254.95 μg) followed by FMR3 (231.87μg).

  • Cytokinins are known to play an important role in fruit set and early fruit growth, but their involvement in later stages of fruit development is less well understood. Recent reports of greatly increased cytokinin concentrations in the flesh of ripening kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa (A. Chev.) C.F. Liang & A.R. Ferguson) and grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) have suggested that these hormones are implicated in the control of ripening-related processes.

  • Banana (Musa spp.) cv. Rajapuri Bale (AAB) is a popular cultivar of banana grown in Northern parts of Karnataka especially in Bagalkot, Bijapur and Belgaum. The demand for the planting material of this cultivar is high and tissue cultured plantlets is not available because of the inherent problem in the initial establishment of the culture and multiplication rate is also low.

  • Anther Culture or microspore culture is a very important and useful tool in plant breeding for efficient production of haploids and subsequent doubled haploid plants in many species, limited research has been conducted with Brassica –rapaas it is more recalcitrant in cell and tissue culture than other Brassicas. In order to access the effect of genotype on microspore embryogenesis in B –rapa, two high yielding brown Sarsoon cultivars (KS-101 and KOS-1) were studied for their response to haploid plant regeneration through Anther culture. Flower buds of 2.2 mm to 2.

  • Shoot apices of Physalis minima L. were cultured on fifteen full strength MS medium supplemented with various concentrations of cytokinins (BAP, KIN and TDZ). Tissue culture responses namely elongation of existing shoot and differentiation of multiple shoots were observed from the cultured explants. The establishment of cultured explants was not affected by the cytokinin concentration in the medium but overall shoot apices showed better establishment on medium supplemented with BAP than other cytokinins.

  • Present investigation was carried out to determine the optimum level of different plant growth regulators for rapid shoot multiplication, rooting and hardening of micropropagated plantlets of Aloe vera. The experiment was laid out using completely randomized design (CRD) with ten replications during 2018-19. Auxiliary shoot explants were inoculated on MS medium supplemented with various concentrations of cytokinin (BAP 0.5 – 6.0 mg/l) alone and BAP (0.5-6.0 mg/l) with auxin (NAA 0.1 – 0.6) in combination for direct shoot bud proliferation.

  • Wheat is the second most produced staple food crop in world. An efficient method for in vitro micro propagation and genetic transformation of wheat are crucial for both basic and applied research. The present study was initiated with a view to develop a regeneration system in 4 genotypes of wheat cultivars HD2888, HD2329, DBW148, and DBW88 as a prerequisite to transformation. The mature embryos were excised from seeds and cultured on MS medium supplemented with high and low concentrations of cytokinins and auxins respectively.

  • Organic inputs being bulky and concentrated in nature are capable of supplying plant nutrients and enhance soil physical environment. These manures containing organically bound macro and other micro-nutrients which influence plant growth and development, which further also play role in maintaining soil sustainability. The use of PGPR is steadily increased in agriculture and offers an attractive way to supplement and/or replace chemical inputs.

  • Plant hormones are signal molecules produced within the plant, and occur in extremely low concentrations. Phytohormones determine the formation of flowers, stems, leaves, shedding of leaves, and development and ripening of fruits. They shape the plant, affecting seed growth, time of flowering, sex of flowers, senescence of leaves and fruits. Hormones are vital for plant growth and lacking them, plants would be mostly a mass of undifferentiated cells. Plant growth regulators include auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, ethylene, growth retardants and growth inhibitors.
