Conduction with heat generation

Effective thermal management of electronic systems depends on the heat transfer efficiency or the heat dissipation capability and the thermal conductivity of heat sink components, which has a critical impact on the performance of the devices. The rapidly growing field of microelectronics creates an enormous need for next-generation flexible, lightweight heat sinks.

Cogen ash, a by-product of sugar mills obtained during co-generation process to produce heat and electrical energy by burning bagasse and/or coal was used to study its effect on growth and yield of paddy. The experiment was conducted in two sites at Bharathinagar, K.M. Doddi, Mandya during kharif 2014 with 13 treatments replicated thrice using randomized complete block design. The cogen ash collected from M/s Sri Chamundeshwari Sugars Ltd. was used in the study was more of silt sized, alkaline in nature with medium EC.

Twenty one F1 crosses generated by crossing seven diverse mungbean genotypes viz., ML-267, LGG-528, MGG-390, WGG-42, AKM-9904, LM95 and EC-362096 in a 7  7 diallel fashion without reciprocals were evaluated for fourteen quantitative characters Heterosis studies conducted on relative heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis revealed that the cross combinations viz., LM 95 × EC 362096, MGG 390 × LM 95 and ML 267 × LGG 528 were adjudged as the best for majority of the yield, water use efficiency and heat stress tolerant traits.

Heat stress often leads to apoptosis of oocytes through generation of free radicals. The use of antioxidants has been found to mitigate the harmful effects of these free radicals and probably apoptosis itself. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of heat stress on expression profile of genes related to apoptosis (pro-apoptotic Bad and Bax; and anti-apoptotic Bcl-2) during oocyte maturation and the ameliorating effects of select antioxidants- viz. melatonin and zinc.
