Conserving natural capital and optimizing factor productivity in semi-arid regions has been a great challenge in achieving sustainability of the production system. Cotton-wheat and guar-wheat based cropping system plays a predominant role under evolving climatic scenarios by sustainable conservation of natural resources. In the present study, the effect of long-term zero-tillage practices on selected physico-chemical and microbiological properties was determined in different cropping system at 0-15 and 15-30 cm soil depth in Mahendergarh (Tigra) district of Haryana (latitude- 28.

Currently there is a significance interest and emphasis on the shift to the conservation and no-tillage methods for the purpose of controlling erosion process (Adugna, 2019). Tillage is an effective farm activity to improve soil tilth and soil physical conditions (Khan et al., 2010).

Soil aggregates and organic matter are considered to be important indicators of soil quality. The objective of this review study was to determine agricultural practices effects on the distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC) associated with aggregate-size fractions. Depth distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC) fractions depends on the efficiency of agro‐ technical managements.

The experiment was laid out in split plot design with two factors namely, tillage practices and different conservation farming split with three replications. The treatment consisted of three tillage practices viz. T1- Conventional tillage, T2 –Minimum tillage and T3 – Summer plouging and five conservation farming viz. C1-Opening conservation, C2- Intercropping with redgram, C3-Mulching, C4-Herbicide application, C5-Combination of all treatments (C1+C2+C3+C4). Observations of crops are analyzed in Split plot design having three replications.

An experiment was conducted at Balindi Research Complex Farm of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal duringRabi season of 2018-2019 to evaluate the impact of spot application of Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.3 ml per litre of water to suppress the initial population of the mustard aphid (Lipaphis erysimi) to check build up of destructive form. The pesticide was applied as spot application in three different tillage with five different fertilizers regimes in five mustard cultivars (B- 54, ADV- 414, B- 9, Bullet, TBM- 204).

Farmers‟ participatory demonstrations on jute cultivation using zero tillage (ZT) technology were conducted in West Bengal through standardized conservation agriculture (CA)-jute protocols developed jointly by Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT). The results of demonstration indicated a significant yield increase under ZT over conventional practices. On an average, an yield increase of 25.83-27.83% under zero tillage technology reflected the positive effect of demonstration over the existing practices.

A study on evaluation of conservation agriculture and nitrogen management practices in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under maize ((Zea mays L.)-wheat cropping system was undertaken at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Experiments were conducted in split-plot design with six main-plot treatments of tillage and crop establishment techniques, viz. conventional tillage-flat (CT-F), zero tillage-flat (ZT-F), CT-bed (CT-B), ZT-B, ZT-F with residue (ZT-F+R) and ZT-B with residue (ZT-B+R), while sub-plot treatments consisted of four nitrogen (N) levels, viz.

A long-term field experiment was conducted to design and implement alternative production systems with increased resource use efficiency, productivity and to determine the effect of tillage systems and mineral fertilizers on soil organic carbon patterns. This experiment intended to evaluate the effects of these management strategies on soil structural formation and structural stabilization of a sandy loam soil. The shift from puddled - transplanted rice on the flat land to raised bed systems affects the productivity and resource use efficiency of the rice-wheat system.

Conservation agriculture (CA) is based on principles of minimum soil disturbance through zero or minimum tillage operations, residue retention on soil surface and crop diversification which not only improves healthy functioning of soil but also enhances nutrient availability, its biological quality and aggregate formation. On the other hand, conventional tillage (CT) practices characterized by excessive tillage, residue removal and monoculture are often associated with the degradation of soil mainly in terms of depletion of Soil Organi arbon (SOC), sub-soil compaction and loss of biodiversity.

Generally, energy conservation and fuel savings are related to the amount of reduction in tillage and may be quite substantial with no-tillage. Less machinery is required for reduced tillage, which contributes to the decrease in overall energy used in the crop production. No-tillage, minimum tillage and mulching have been broadly used in the modern agriculture operations which had showed excellent results in past as well as in present. These techniques have provided obvious benefits of soil and water conservation on sloping farm-land in the hill regions.
