Considerable genetic variability
-
Runs of Homozygosity (ROH) are genomic regions where identical haplotypes are inherited from each parent. Since their first detection due to technological advances in the late 1990s, ROHs have been shedding light on human population history and deciphering the genetic basis of monogenic and complex traits and diseases. ROH studies have predominantly exploited SNP array data, but are gradually moving to whole genome sequence (WGS) data as it becomes available. WGS data, covering more genetic variability, can add value to ROH studies, but require additional considerations during analysis

The genus Hosta is a group of economically appreciated perennial herbs consisting of approximately 25 species that is endemic to eastern Asia. Due to considerable morphological variability, the genus has been well recognized as a group with taxonomic problems. Chloroplast is a cytoplasmic organelle with its own genome, which is the most commonly used for phylogenetic and genetic diversity analyses for land plants.

Thirty mungbean genotypes were evaluated for the estimation of genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation coefficient, and path coefficient analysis for yield and its component traits. A considerable amount of genetic variability was observed among all the genotypes for all the characters under study. GCV & PCV were highest for seed yield per plant, followed by harvest index, biological yield and number of pods per plant.

Line × Tester analysis was carried out using 13 lines and 3 testers to estimate heterosis on seed yield and its contributing characters in Opium Poppy. The 39 resulting hybrids along with their parents were evaluated in Randomized Block Design during Rabi 2019-2020. The analysis of variance revealed the presence of variability among parents and crosses for the characters studied.

Genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, and correlation for different characters were studied in five grape genotypes during 2015-16 to identify accessions with useful traits for improvement programme. The study indicated existence of considerable amount of genetic variability for all the traits and demonstrates the usefulness of the genetic material as a donor of important genes for grapevine improvement.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is an herbaceous perennial plant belong form the family zingiberaceae. In the present investigation, 27 genotypes from different sources of the country were taken into consideration for genetic variability analysis and evaluation of different characters as specified by the DUS characters evaluated by Indian Institute of Spices Research. Randomized Block Design was adopted for evaluating the genotypes about the performances in this region.

Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

Understanding the genetic variability and diversity of a crops species provides opportunity for plant breeders to develop new and improved cultivars having both farmer-preferred and breeder-preferred traits. In the present study 11 morphological characters and 16 quantitative characters were recorded from 27 advance breeding lines/varieties to identify useful alleles for future breeding. Genotypes varied considerably in plant growth and morphological characters. The overall mean of ShannonWiener diversity index (H’) value was 0.

A set of 24 cross combinations were developed through Line × Tester mating system involving 11 diverse genotypes of tomato and observations were taken for yield and yield attributing characters to study the extent of heterosis in the crosses. Tomato is an autogamous crop and has originated in the Peru region of South America. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications.

A study was undertaken to estimate the heritability, genetic advance and coefficient of variation of yield and yield contributing traits in thirteen genotypes of wheat. The study was conducted in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications at Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station, Kargil (SKUAST-Kashmir) during kharif season of 2018. Significant genetic differences were observed for all the quantitative characters except flag leaf width, indicating considerable amount of variation among genotypes.

Thirty eight genotypes of tomato were evaluated for yield and yield-contributing characters. Various genetic parameters like variability, heritability and genetic advance were calculated. The test genotypes exhibited a wide range of variability for traits under consideration. These traits were also found to be highly heritable. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was found to be greater than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the characters studied.

Studies on genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance were carried out with 24 genotypes of Bathua (Chenopodium album L.) in Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, Arabhavi. Considerable amount of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation was observed for all characters studied. Phenotypic variation was greater than that of the genotypic variations for all the characters. The greater portion of total phenotypic variation was due to the genotypic variation.
