Glofish is the first transgenic animal approved to be consumed by human in the USA The insertion of different constructs of GFP into the fish genomes to give different green colors. The idea for recombinant DNA was first proposed by Peter Lobban, a graduate student of Prof. Dale Kaiser in the Biochemistry Department at Stanford University Medical School. The first publications describing the successful production and intracellular replication of recombinant DNA appeared in 1972 and 1973.

This study presents a literature review of PNT requirements across industries. It proposes a requirements framework for three professional sectors that are being transformed by automation, connectivity and high-accuracy positioning. The PNT requirements of construction, agriculture and rail applications are reviewed and further validated by field trials.

This thesis investigates the choice behaviour of first year undergraduate students through proposing and testing a conceptual model. The psychological constructs of personal values, motivation, selection criteria, demographic and socioeconomic factors introduced as underlying drivers provide invaluable insight into the pathways of influence and relationships between student types and their preference towards a particular degree program at a particular university.

The aim of this research is to add to knowledge in the adoption of Information Systems field, by using Design Science Research to look at the implementation of Elluminate in university learning environments. The broad aim of this research is to better understand the implementation of web technologies affordances in higher education from stakeholders’ perspectives. This thesis investigates case studies on Elluminate implementation in subjects to develop guidelines for implementing technology affordances in learning activities.

While it is recognised that knitted fabrics may have their place in firefighting PPC, especially for undergarments, from the point of view of fire performance, strength and presentation, woven fabric constructions appear to be more suitable for work wear applications. Hence, this study is concerned with developing and testing a range of functional, woven Station Wear fabrics designed to enhance flame protection, durability and thermo-physiological comfort properties. In trying to improve all three aspects, a compromise in the properties of fabrics developed would be very likely.

The purpose of the research "Habits and technology fit: a study of technology acceptance" is to study Habit-Technology Fit (HTF) as an approach to capture a dynamic mix of habits which are perceived as salient from the respondent’s perspective, and the effect of including it in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model framework. The HTF construct and its measurement were developed in order to capture multiple non-predetermined habits. All measures were semantically validated with Q-Sorting exercises, and their reliability was statistically confirmed.

The dissertation aims to address these limitations by using annotation-based domain-specific language (aDSL), which is internal to OOPL, to not only express an essential and unified domain model but generatively construct modular software from this model.

Microfabricated accelerometer sensors have been developed to measure acceleration in a variety of applications, including automobile airbag crash sensors and seismic activity monitors. For this thesis a three-dimensional accelerometer sensor has been created for measuring involuntary human hand motion. The sensor uses three single-axis accelerometers fabricated at the MIT Microsystems Technology Laboratory.

To establish stable cell lines that produce recombinant multisubunit proteins, it is usually necessary to cotransfect cells with several independent gene constructs. Here, we show that a stepwise fusion of individually transfected cells, results in a fused cell-line that secretes a complete multisubunit protein. Functional expression of recombinant multisubunit proteins may require a defined expression ratio between each protein subunit. The cell-fusion technology described allows a predefined expression level of each subunit.

Affinity reagents capable of selective recognition of the different human immunoglobulin isotypes are important detection and purification tools in biotechnology. Here we describe the development and characterization of affinity proteins (affibodies) showing selective binding to human IgA. From protein libraries constructed by combinatorial mutagenesis of a 58-amino-acid, three-helix bundle domain derived from the IgG-binding staphylococcal protein A, variants showing IgA binding were selected by using phage display technology and IgA monoclonal antibodies (myeloma) as target molecules. ...

In this tutorial I will introduce ‘learning to rank’, a machine learning technology on constructing a model for ranking objects using training data. I will first explain the problem formulation of learning to rank, and relations between learning to rank and the other learning tasks. I will then describe learning to rank methods developed in recent years, including pointwise, pairwise, and listwise approaches.

Numerous innovations in high-throughput protein production and micro-array surface technologies have enabled the development of addressable formats for proteins ordered at high spatial density. Protein array imple-mentations have largely focused on antibody arrays for high-throughput protein profiling. However, it is also possible to construct arrays of full-length, functional proteins from a library of expression clones.
