Constructive alignment

Ebook "Introduction to computational biology: An evolutionary approach" Analysis of molecular sequence data is the main subject of this introduction to computational biology. There are two closely connected aspects to biological sequences: (i) their relative position in the space of all other sequences, and (ii) their movement through this sequence space in evolutionary time. Accordingly, the first part of the book deals with classical methods of sequence analysis: pairwise alignment, exact string matching, multiple alignment, and hidden Markov models.

In this paper, we describe our approach to tackle this problem: we first preprocess the training data then use it to train a FastSpeech2 acoustic model with some replacements in the external aligner model, finally we use HiFiGAN vocoder to construct the waveform.

The constructive theory has been applied in classrooms over the last few decades to serve achieving the intended learning outcomes. The purpose of the present study was to examine the extent to which English majors were satisfied with the program’s constructive alignment in response to achieving the English proficiency outcome at the level 5 in accordance with Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency (VSTEP) framework from the perspective of the students.

Housing is an essential amenity. However the impact, due to current trend of increasing embodied energy consumption per capita should be minimised. This may even require major cultural shift to traditional construction processes, practices and home owner perceptions. This thesis presents the outcomes of a study investigating ways to produce a “bill of embodied energy” for housing sector aligned to the standard practice of “bill of quantities”.

The aim of this research is to add to knowledge in the adoption of Information Systems field, by using Design Science Research to look at the implementation of Elluminate in university learning environments. The broad aim of this research is to better understand the implementation of web technologies affordances in higher education from stakeholders’ perspectives. This thesis investigates case studies on Elluminate implementation in subjects to develop guidelines for implementing technology affordances in learning activities.

This study focuses on the construction of meaningful work within the social entrepreneurship context. In light of the hidden costs of meaningful work, this study challenges the problematic assumption that work in the social sector is inherently meaningful. Drawing on in-depth interview data with 40 social entrepreneurs in Malaysia (MSEs), findings of the study demonstrates that social entrepreneurs sought after meaningfulness at work that aligns with their values, and the experience of meaningful work is realized when a positive change takes place.

We present RaGOO, a reference-guided contig ordering and orienting tool that leverages the speed and sensitivity of Minimap2 to accurately achieve chromosome-scale assemblies in minutes. After the pseudomolecules are constructed, RaGOO identifies structural variants, including those spanning sequencing gaps.

The cDNA encoding lipase enzyme was cloned from Olea europaea var. europaea cv. Gemlik leaves using the RACE method. The full nucleotide sequence was 1546 bp long and encoded a putative protein of 412 amino acid long protein. The amino acid sequence showed identity to Triacylglycerol Lipase 1 sequences from different plants. A phylogenetic tree was constructed showing relations with various plant lipases.

Several methods have been developed for the accurate reconstruction of gene trees. Some of them use reconciliation with a species tree to correct, a posteriori, errors in gene trees inferred from multiple sequence alignments. Unfortunately the best fit to sequence information can be lost during this process.

Most phylogeny analysis methods based on molecular sequences use multiple alignment where the quality of the alignment, which is dependent on the alignment parameters, determines the accuracy of the resulting trees. Different parameter combinations chosen for the multiple alignment may result in different phylogenies.

Nowadays universities in Vietnam have begun to update their curricula by adopting a backward design with a focus on students’ learning outcomes to replace the old-fashioned forward model. However, to have a constructive alignment is a problem they have to face. This situation has prompted this case study research in May 2020, intending to examine a curriculum to find out whether it is coherent in terms of its main components – objectives, syllabus, methodology, and evaluation.

Familial binding profiles (FBPs) represent the average binding specificity for a group of structurally related DNA-binding proteins. The construction of such profiles allows the classification of novel motifs based on similarity to known families, can help to reduce redundancy in motif databases and de novo prediction algorithms, and can provide valuable insights into the evolution of binding sites.

The Smith-Waterman algorithm is known to be a more sensitive approach than heuristic algorithms for local sequence alignment algorithms. Despite its sensitivity, a greater time complexity associated with the Smith-Waterman algorithm prevents its application to the all-pairs comparisons of base sequences, which aids in the construction of accurate phylogenetic trees.

Aligning similar molecular structures is an important step in the process of bio-molecular structure and function analysis. Molecular surfaces are simple representations of molecular structure that are easily constructed from various forms of molecular data such as 3D atomic coordinates (PDB) and Electron Microscopy (EM) data.
